Did you see or hear about this news story over the weekend? What were your thoughts while reading this article? Were you surprised that our superintendent is "exploring other opportunities?" How do you feel about the offensive (and some would argue racist) comments made and emails sent from our School Board member and Board of Supervisor?

I heard about the news Friday night after my game when my mom was talking about it. I could care less what the school board does. I only have one more year here. I wasn't surprised though, she's been taking a lot of crap lately.
I didn't hear about this over the weekend. I wasn't surprised that someone left after all the problems that have happened. The comments are just stupid. I don't think anyone cares about the "South rising again" except for someone stuck in the past. Why would we want racism back?
I did hear about Perera's resignation over the weekend. I think it's funny how she said something about resigning because of family issues, but later in the article it said she was one of the finalists for a different school. I think IWCS will be better off without her. I am not surprised that she is "exploring other opportunities."
I figured she would do this... No offense but she comes in tries changing everything then leaves. Sounds a little bit like how our president is doing right now... I think that they may be wrong, but she brought it upon herself.
Criticism is going to be everywhere. Just because the superintendent ran into some here does not mean she won't run into any of it anywhere else. I am not surprised that she is exploring other opportunities, I do not blame her...I would not blame anyone who would explore other opportunities, especially in this economy. It's always alright to keep eyes open in case for something better to come along. Everyone does it; and no matter how much criticism she may be exposed to, and no matter how much she may or may not deserve, we all know that if we were in her shoes...we would choose the better opportunity as well. We shouldn't begrudge her for choosing to explore other opportunities if she feels uncomfortable in her work setting. BUT if she was working toward a better budget plan that would turn us around, it would be morally looked down upon by me if she decided to leave us hanging.
Yes, I did hear about the news over the weekend. I was very surprised actually. The offensive and racial comments are very rude.

I heard about Perera's resignation on Friday. I am not surprised that our superintendent is "exploring other opportunities." I don't understand how DeGroft's comment came up at the meeting. All I have to say it is perfect timing for Perera. She didn't come to Isle of Wight County Schools to stay anyway.
I didn't see this on the news Friday. If I was her I would leave to it's just to much going on with the school board. If I had better opportunities somewhere else I would do what's best for my family and I. I really don't feel any type of way towards the comment. Some people are still stuck in the past but who cares!
I heard about this Thursday, I believe. I do not really care because I have like 10 days left. I believe she was here just because she needed a job to get their family started.
I think, he did not mean it racist, he meant that we all need to work for our money and not relay on other people.

I didn't hear about this story over the weekend. I wasn't surprised that she is leaving IWCS; I always figured that she was using IWCS as a "stepping stone" to test out the idea before moving on to a bigger school system. While the racist comments were inappropriate, I believe she wants to use the comments as a "way out." The comments were very inappropriate, even if it's what someone believes. Those comments shouldn't be tolerated in any school system.
I am not surprised at all at the fact that she left. I think that she was using IWCS as a gateway to other bigger and better places. She wanted to use IWCS for some of her schooling and she did. She was just looking a reason to leave and she found one. I think the comments weren't as big of a deal as she made it out to be. Honestly, "the south will rise again?" Its not going to happen. Point blank. It just will not happen. No matter whether Buzz Bailey says it or the Governor of North Carolina says it! Obviously it is just some kind of fantasy they were raised to believe. It isn't as big of a deal as people make it out to be.
I heard about her resigning on friday. It doesnt surprise me at all. Its normal for someone to come in and try to change everything and then leave. It doesn't matter where you go, there will always be someone around saying something you don't like. Although I don't agree with comment made, I don't think she should resign because of it. I'm sure she will run into more comments likes this, wherever she decides to go, just because thats our society; No one thinks before they speak. I can't blame her for "exploring her opportunities" though.
I seen it in facebook but, I really didn't pay it any attention. If she has better opportunities, then she should go for what she wants. Then again if I was her I would stay an fix the problem instead of moving on.

Yes I saw this article Friday at the softball game. To be honest, I was happy that she is leaving. She seem to have a negative impact on our schools. I don't believe this is her real reason for leaving IWCS. That is so awful what they said in the meeting and the email. It's crazy to think that these people are in charge of our school. What if the students did that?

I heard the news yesterday.Mom told me. But it's sad how the people that suppose to help the school is making racist slurs. To me the people still live in the past and that might never change so life goes on. I was very surprised though.

I honestly don't care about it. I'm leaving in a few months. It doesn't offend me because IWCS are a lot of drama. I don't think she was pleased to be involved in whether the teachers being paid or not for June. If she isn't happy with her job, there is nothing wrong with her leaving to get a better one. For all we know, our new superintendent will be better than her. Everything happens for a reason. If she wants to work in Florida or where ever I okay with me. I don't think her job is easy and maybe she wants a fresh start. If she doesn't like her job, then it's good she is leaving sooner than later.
I didn't hear about her leaving. Being a senior her decision and what IWCS does doesn't matter to me. Everyone has there own reasons to quit a job and unless she said that she quit due to what he said it can all be made up. Unless they prove and provide the emails it could be media just causing drama.

I had heard about it and I gladly support her decision. I think she needs a job that she will have a better handle over. Never in all my years of going to school have they said we might have to close a school early because we are broke. I think the e-mails were a little over the top but criticism comes from anywhere its just something you have to move past.

I heard about this last night. I'm not shocked that she is exploring other opportunities, but if she was thinking of other jobs she should not have put us in great debt. I think the men on these Boards know what they did was wrong, and at the level they are at should know better than to act as they did. These men who were all involved should pay their respects, and learn to think about their actions before they take action in them.

This is the first I've heard about it. I'm not sure what to think about all this, I'm not sure if she's resigning because she found it offensive and directed toward her. I have no comment on what people have expressed in emails. I am not sure why everyone is stressing towards her or even if they have reasons to. I'm clueless

I had not idea about this at all. I was kind of shocked, because for one I never heard about this or any emails and for two, once things started going south in Isle of Wight, she's going to just up and go? I bet she's been looking for a job for awhile to be honest about this. I want to know what these supposed emails and comments said. Who were they from? Board members, parents, county members? I wasn't too sure about her from the beginning, like when she wanted this huge raise. . . Oh well, maybe whoever takes over next year can work with the board and money can be budgeted a lot better.
Yes I did. I think she has a right to look for other options if she wants to. I think it is messed up. I see why she is leaving now. It makes IWCS look really bad. Plus how can someone on the school board have such bad grammar?

Yes, I had heard about this before all of this came out. I think this is insane. I think this is crazy and it blows my mind that this has even happened in our county. I am not surprised she is "exploring other opportunities" I would to. I would feel as if I wasn't wanted in the community anymore. I think this is crazy. All of the people involved should be fired or red carded.
