Accidental Racist
Listen to the song and read the lyrics below.
To the man who waited on me
At the Starbucks down on Main
I hope you understand
When I put on that t-shirt
The only thing I meant to say
Is I'm a Skynyrd fan
The red flag on my chest is somehow like the elephant
In the corner of the South
And I just walked him right in the room
Just a proud rebel son
With an old can of worms
Looking like I've got a lot to learn
But from my point of view
I'm just a white man
Coming to you from the Southland
Trying to understand what it's like not to be
I'm proud of where I'm from
But not everything we've done
And it ain't like you and me to rewrite history
Our generation didn't start this nation
We're still picking up the pieces
Walking over eggshells
Fighting over yesterday
And caught between southern pride
And southern blame
They called it Reconstruction
Fixed the buildings, dried some tears
We're still sifting' through the rubble
After 150 years
I'll try to put myself in your shoes
And that's a good place to begin
It ain't like I can walk a mile
In someone else's skin
'Cause I'm just a white man
Living in the Southland
Just like you, I'm more than what you see
I'm proud of where I'm from
And not everything we've done
And it ain't like you and me to rewrite history
Our generation didn't start this nation
And we're still paying for the mistakes
Than a bunch of folks made
Long before we came
Caught somewhere between southern pride
And southern blame
[LL Cool J]
Dear Mr. White Man, I wish you understood
What the world is really like when you're living in the hood
Just because my pants are saggin' doesn't mean I'm up to no good
You should try to get to know me, I really wish you would
Now my chains are gold, but I'm still misunderstood
I wasn't there when Sherman's March turned the south into firewood
I want you to get paid, but be a slave I never could
Feel like a new-fangled Django dogging invisible white hoods
So when I see that white cowboy hat, I'm thinking it's not all good
I guess we're both guilty of judging the cover, not the book
I'd love to buy you a beer, conversate and clear the air
But I see that red flag and I think you wish I wasn't here
I'm just a white man
(If you don't judge my do-rag)
Coming to you from the southland
(I won't judge your red flag)
Trying to understand what it's like not to be
I'm proud of where I'm from
(If you forget my gold chains)
But not everything we've done
(I'll forget the iron chains)
It ain't like you and me can rewrite history
(Can't rewrite history, baby)
Oh, Dixieland
(The relationship between the Mason-Dixon needs some fixing')
I hope you understand what this is all about
(Quite frankly, I'm a black Yankee, but I've been thinking about this lately)
I'm a son of the New South
(The past is the past, you feel me)
And I just want to make things right
(Let bygones be bygones)
Where all that's left is southern pride
(RIP Robert E. Lee, but I've gotta thank Abraham Lincoln for freeing me, know what I mean)
What do you think of the song? Explain. Do you think racial tension will ever go away? Explain. Are you offended if someone wears a rebel flag or a do-rag and sagging pants? Can you see why some people might be offended? Does racial tension exist at Windsor High School? Can it be fixed?

I think the song sucks. I don't like music is why. The racial tension can go away. People just have to let it go away. I don't care what someone wears. It's their life. I can see why some people might get offended. I think the tension exists here at Windsor High School. But that can be fixed.
Racial Tension in my opinion will never go away. People raise their kids like they were raised so it just keeps getting passed on. I'm not offended by anything really, but I've never seen people so proud of a war they lost. I can see why people would be offended though. Racial tension exists everywhere, especially in a small country town like Windsor.
I don't like the song. It is not my kind of music. I think it can go away but only if people grow up. am not offended by anything anyone wears. It does not matter much to me what they want to wear. I'm sure there is some racial tension here but it can go away.
I don't think racial tension will ever go away because of stereotypes. I am not really ever offended by what somebody wears or how they wear it. I don't see why some people might get offended. There is racial tension at High School. I think it can be fixed.
I think that this song is just another ordinary song that artists sing. I don't think racial tension will ever go away, its just how it is. No, I'm not offended at all what someone wears. Yes, I can see why some people may be offended but you just have to learn everyone has there own opinion. Yes, there is racial tension at Windsor but it most likely won't be fixed ever.
I don't mind the song at all. I love Brad Paisley. Racial tension doesn't seem like an issue to me. I think because I live in Windsor and it isn't something that is very prominent. If I lived somewhere like Norfolk or Portsmouth, it might be a bigger issue. Rebel Flags don't offend it. It isn't a racial issue. It is a matter of being proud of someone's heritage. Many people get offended by rebel flags because they haven't been properly educated on the matter.

I have never heard this song before but I do not think it is bad. The racial tension will probably never go away. I do not get offended when people dress they way to do. People don't dress like me, so I hope that they don't get offended either. At Windsor High School racial tension occurs. Racial tension, to me, can never be fixed. It is just like any other problem we have in the school. People are to worried about other peoples business, not their own.
I like the song. I don't think racial tension will ever go away. I don't get offended when people wear certain things. I don't understand why people do offended. There is a little bit of racial tension exist here at Windsor. Things like this just can't be fixed. People will think and feel the way they want.
I don't think the song was bad at all. Racial tension is definitely a tension nowadays, I know it will never go away mainly because people just don't know when to stop. I'm really not offended if someone wears rebel flags or sagging pants. If people want to wear that then that;s there choice. People probably are offended cause they want to keep playing the "Race Card". There is some racial tension at Windsor, I don't think it will ever be fixed.
I like the song, I love any type of country music. Racial tension will never go away cause we learn it and are reminded about it. Honestly I could care less what you wear. I am not offended at all, until it becomes out of hand. I understand why people would be offended. One person could believe strongly in one thing and another the complete opposite. WHS has racial tension but then again it doesn't because I think we both just keep to ourselves. Racial tension COULD be fixed but I doubt it ever will.
I think the song explains how a majority of Southern people feel. As a person who was raised with "southern pride" I deal with being called a racist sometimes when I'm definitely not. I love how this song explains that we can have southern pride and still respect African Americans. I don't think racial tension will ever go away because some people have wild and crazy opinions about people of another race. Being a proud southerner, I am not offended by somewhere wearing a do-rag or sagging their pants and I don't understand why some people do get offended by it. One of my best friends is black and he can sag his pants and I can wear my rebel flag and we still respect and love each other. Racial tension does exist at Windsor High School and I don't think it can ever be fixed because some people are so set in their opinions that they don't want to accept change.
I have never heard this song before. I think it's kind of eye-opening. I like how they had the white man's point of view and the black man's. I don't think racial tension will ever go away completely. Most people are too stubborn to forget and forgive. Personally, I'm not offended if someone wears particular clothing choices. I can see why some people would be offended though.
I think its a good song that expresses the racial tension in America well. I don't think racial tension will ever completely go away. I believe that because there is always going to be that one person that has something negative to say about another race. Personally, it does not offend me when people wear do-rags or sag their pants. Whether it looks good to me or not is a different story. I don't see why the rebel flag is such an offense to people either. Its a flag that symbolizes southern pride, not some symbol of slavery. The Civil War was not fought based solely on slavery. There were other reasons it was fought. So if you want to offended by a simple flag, maybe re-reading the history books will help. There is some racial tension here but not too much. Like the rest of the country, it probably can't and won't be fixed.
I thought the song was pretty good. I didn't think the song was offensive at all. Racial tension will never go away. That is just the way some people were raised. Rebel flags or a do-rag and sagging pants do not bother me at all. I'm sure some people took the song the wrong way. There is a little racial tension in Windsor, but can be fixed.
The song "Accidental Racist" is showing two different points of view on racism. Nothing about the song is controversial. Brad Paisley and LL Cool J are just expressing their feelings. Racial tension will always exist. Many people do not understand the significance of the rebel flag. The flag symbolizes southern heritage and is not a racial issue. Over time people have misinterpreted the true meaning of the flag because of a lack of education. Racial tension exist everywhere including Windsor High School.
It's not my type of music, but it's a good song. Racial tension can decrease, but never truly go away. The monster known as hate has too much of a presence in this world, and as long as it exists, racial tension will never go away. I'm not offended by a rebel flag or do-rag. One of my best friends wears the rebel flag, and it doesn't bother me at all. People become offended because they are too immature and stubborn to not play the Race Card. Racial tension exists everywhere, and Windsor is no exception.
Not every white person supports and wears the rebel flag, just like not all black people wear their pants on the ground. I suppose it is a local thing, not sure. I am a white person and I do not support the rebel flag, however, I am not offended by it. Nor am I offended by sagging pants, I just hope that people realize that not everyone desires to see whats underneath jeans. There are many black people that are offended by the other people of the same race that sag and wear house clothes outside. Its all depends on where you grew up and how you were raised. There will always be racial tension. It will never go away. I don't believe that it can be fixed, there will always be ill feelings one way or the other. Everyone judges someone and don't take the time to get to know one another, but that's alright. Life has to go on anyway. But if it bothers someone so much, Don't let it "rent space in your attic". It's not a personal attack on another race. Its just "pride".
I love Brad Paisley and country music period. I don't think racial tension will ever go away, just because. I don't find a rebel flag offensive but I do see how people could be offended. Racial tension does exist here and I think it could be fixed if people are willing.
I don't normally listen to country music, but this song has positive message to it. Racial tension will never go away because each race has different views on certain subjects.Sometimes the rebel flag do bother me sometimes, but I try not to let it get to me. I do understand both views coming from both sides. Yes racial tension is at Windsor High school

This song gots a good message to it.Racial tension wont go away cause people be racist these days.

I think this song pretty much sums out why many people have a lot of racial tension. However, I think there are many that will disagree with the song. I say this because many people, white and black, do not care to become friends with the opposite race. Many people are racially discriminate by choice, not because they have to. That's why I feel that this song may have a great impact on people that actually care about settling racial tension, but for the people that don't want to be friendly, it won't do very much.
I think racial tension will ever go away. It will be wherever you go. Im not offended by much, especially not a rebel flag, do-rag, or sagging pants. To me racial tension does exist at Windsor High School unfortunately.
It was ok. No racial tension will never go away because of ignorant people and parents teaching their kids to be racist. I'm not offended by either. I don't see how people can be offended. Yes racial tension exist in Windsor. I don't know if it could be fixed.
I think that this song is just another song. People react differently to things like this depending on how they're raised. I honestly am not offended by the way people dress, yet I can see how other people might be. Tension may exist here in Windsor, but it mostly lays low.
I don't really like country music but this song was alright. I think there is still some racial tension. But people should stop that because that happened a while ago and we can't help it.
I like the song. I do not think racial tension will go away. Rebel Flags do not offend me and sagging pants do not either. Yes. I can see why some people can be offended by it. YES racial tension exist at WHS. No it can not be fixed.
I'm not usually into country music but this song was good. I don't think racial tension will ever go away. It needs to go away though.

This song is okay. Racial tension will never go away. Everyone is different. I am not offended by those things. People have different views. Racial tension exist at Windsor High School does exist.
This song is different. I know racial tension is still around today. I do believe that one that it will be gone. It won't be any time soon sadly. I'm not offended by rebel flags or do-rags, but that is because I don't judge people by their past. I have a good tolerance with what people stand up for. I'm going to hate someone automatically because of color they are. I don't see racial tension around Windsor High School, so I don't think it exist, but nobody ever knows what really goes behind the scenes. I don't like stereotypes. Those people aren't very open minded. There is so much more to a person than what they wear.
This song isn't my cup of tea. I love some country songs, but this one ain't one of them. Racial Tension is always going to be around for ages, but there's nothing we can do about it. Unless someone or someones change it. No along as someone does call me out my name or anything, it doesn't bother me. Its their life not ours. I don't see why people would get offended, its not them. Yes, Windsor High does have racial tension. But its weird though, maybe one day things will change.
I thought the song gave a really good message. I don't think racial tension will ever go away. In the world we live in today there is so much conflict. Sagging pants and rebel flags do not bother me. When I guys with sagging pants and do-rags I do become more cautious because its not what I am raised around. You should also always be aware of your surroundings. Racial tension does exist here in Windsor High School and no I do not believe it will be fixed everyone has an opinion.
I like this song and I love me some Brad Paisley to.I dont think racial tension will ever go away because some parents raise there kids too not like another skin color. I wouldnt be offended by a rebel flag or a do-rag, I can see why some one would be offended. I dont see any racial tension at WHS.
I like Brad Paisley so just about any song he sings I like. I don't think racial tension will be going away any time soon because our generation isn't really far from when there was the huge racist problem like grandparents and a lot of things are passed around the family. I'm not one who is going to judge some one by their skin but sometimes how you present yourself will led others to think things. I understand why some can be offended because there are so many racist problems. There is definitely racial tension in Windsor High School but probably won't ever be fixed.
