Defend your position on the "no hugging rule." Do you think enforcing this rule would cause or prevent problems? Why? Do you think this story deserved to be on national news? Why or why not?

Danielle.... I think the "no hugging rule,"is kind of stupid.I think enforcing this rule would cause more problems then prevent them.I think this story deserved to be on national news because people should see how some schools make stupid rules.
This is ridiculous. It's just a hug, it's not like two students are going to start humping each other in the hallway because they hugged. Maybe the principal was never hugged by a loved one or is just as sad a person as this no hugging rule is a sad rule. I hug my friends every morning when he hangout in the halls before classes start. It's just a way to show you care, it's not an invitation to jump into each others pants. A hug is a hug please don't try and make it anything more it just makes you look pathetic. Kyle E.
Honestly... I really do not care about a few middle school kids not getting to hug one another. I mean I have bigger things to think about then that. But as for my opinion on the subject, yes I do think it is pretty dumb that they cant hug in school. But if the principle thought that hugging was too much, than he must have seen fit that there was bigger issues than that and this is his/her way of fixing the issue.
I think no hugging in school is retarded I'm pretty sure we are all smart enough to not do anything to bad in a hallway in the middle of school. I think enforcing the rule would cause more problems than it would prevent, because some kids are gonna be mad about it and cause a fuss. It was a good story to be on national news because it needs some public attention.
I think this rule is silly. I don't think that a hug is that big. I don't really know if it would cause or prevent problems. I can kind of understand why the principal would make this rule. Maybe the principal thinks that a hug turns into something else and it just turns into a bigger problem. I don't think that this story deserved national news. I think that because it's nothing serious that's really worth being heard all over the country. LaTesha
Okay, obviously everyone has different opinions on certain things and who ever forced this rule is being ridiculous. Maybe they have never been hugged before and obviously need one. What problems is there to prevent? Whether kids are in school or at home their going to do what they want. If kids want to show P.D.A. then they will, maybe when no ones looking but still it will happen. Its not like kids are doing extreme things in school such as sex. It's a middle school lets get real. I think this story should be on the news but at the same time I don't because it's just unreal to me that a school would really banned hugging. -Morgan Dee
Yes, I think enforcing this rule would cause or prevent problems. Why, because the grown ups know that children like to hug and they probably going to hug anyway, when nobody is looking. No, I don't think this story deserved to be on national news. Why not, because it's not that serious to put something like that on the news. It's a waste of time to put something that stupid on the news, I mean there are a lot of other things that should be on the news instead of a hugging problem. Jaquitta
I think the "no hugging rule" is stupid and shouldn't be used. I think enforcing this rule would cause more problems. The story deserved to be on the national news, because people need to see what other schools do and what is wrong.
~Courtney I feel like the "no hugging rule is a bit ridiculous, because all hugs don't lead to "incidents of unsuitable physical interaction." This rule won't really solve any problems, because hugging is not a problem. All in all though, this is not a big crisis, and should not be treated as one. Even if the kids are a tad upset, they shouldn't try to fight it to the extent that they are. It might be a weird rule, but it shouldn't prevent them from socializing and comforting their friends like they claim it is. The students won't be at that shcool forever, and they need to learn to have a little patience for those unreasonable rules that are a part of life.
Seriously?!?! I hope Windsor High School officials haven't heard about this yet. This is so stupid. It's a hug! At least they're not killing every person they meet. They're only hugging which shows that people in this world love each other and are trying to keep peace. It would be different if it were a high school and a bad one too, but this is only a middle school. The kids don't even look like they cause trouble. This would cause problems because the kids are going to get in trouble when they do hug someone and they're too busy fretting over the baby stuff. Get a life, NJ Middle School. This should be on national news because they're kind of taking away the right to freedom.
This is so un-called for. This is like controlling our relationships and personal life which nobody should be able to do. I don’t think this rule could or would prevent any problems from happening; a hug is innocent and can make you feel better and comfortable. I think this story deserves to reach national news because it’s just another way to try to control society and its sad that its starting at a young age. I understand I no kissing rule because that’s “PDA” but hugging is crazy!
I think that the "no hugging rule" is dumb. I think this rule could cause problems because more people will get in trouble for hugging and having a habit. I don't really think that this story deserved to be national news, yeah hugging is great and all but there are much more important things happening in the world right now other than one school having hugging problems.
I think hugging is a personal right. Unless it is interfering with school, i do not think hugging privileges should be revoked. If hugging isn't already a problem in school, taking the privilege away causes more problems than it helps. This story is most likely on national news because it is taking away personal rights. I think the hugging rule will eventually die out and stopped being enforced.
I think that this rule is stupid. I think that hugging should be allowed and not a big deal in school. Hugs can help people get through their day especially when someone is having a bad one.
I think that it hugging causes the problems I think its the people that cause the no hugging problem. Because sometimes people just go overboard. No, It's not that big of an issue it is important it just being overreacted.
I think this is ridiculous! Students should be able to hug, I understand if they don't want it to go any further than that but they are taking it a little too far. I don't think it's that big of a deal, but then again some may feel it is. ZACH CAHALAN
I think the no hugging rule is rediculous, it would be different if they were doing inappropriate things when hugging. Kids should be able to hug, like just friends. So they can make someones day even better. It seems like it wont cause problems because the kids know that they don't want to get in trouble so they don't hug. They understand they have to wait till school gets out to hug but after awhile they may get tired of it. This story doesn't need to be on the news because I remember when they tried doing this at the middle school just not as big and you didn't get in huge trouble just yelled at for hugging. Jessica Blythe
I believe that this rule will start other more serious issues with the student body. I don't know if it deserved to be national news or not but alot of middle schools are doing this rule these days.
I think the "no hugging rule" is crazy. Why can't students hug? I think enforcing this rule will cause problems. Parents might rebel. That one girl said that she was going to do something about it. Eventually if they keep it, students will hug anyways and get in trouble. There is a dozen more issues in schools that need to be taken care of. They are taking hugging to something totally it's not, but they can't catch people with drugs. I think that rule is extremely uncalled for.
Hugs are OK, that is the dumbest thing I have heard about in a while. It would cause problems because its a hug not kiss or something worse. Parents would fight the school if that was the case.It needs to be on the news because the school is stupid. That rule is just not worth even talking about.
I think that this "no hugging rule" is ridiculous because either way people are going to hug. This rule is going to make the kids want to hug even more. I think that this rule would cause problems between the school system and the kids because the kids are going to try their best to knock the rule out. I do not think that this story deserved to be on the news because it was not that serious. It is just like when I was in the middle school and the had a no hugging rule. We didn't have Channel 3 at our school following us and making a big broadcast about nothing. We just fought against it and they took it away.
That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard. When you try to prevent kids from doing something, all they want to do is break the rule. That's how I am. If someone tells me to do something ridiculous then I want to do the complete opposite.
I think this principal needs a hug. Lol! I do not think there should be a rule for no hugging. Why, because that is how someone show their emotions. I don't think this should have been on national news. This is crazy.
This is the most stupid rule i have ever seen in my life . To me some schools just make rules because they know that they can . It i sad to know that you cant hug yopur friends at school . On the other hand , the school had to have a good reason to do it . Maybe they seen some things that they didnt need to see .
I think this new rule is just ridiculous! I love giving my friends hugs like everyday! This principal seems to need a hug. (Maybe they should all hug the principal and that would change his/her mind!) The "no hugging" rule should definitely be abolished for the schools unless it goes farther than that. Now if there were a ton of kids kissing and doing other unmentionable things while hugging, then that would be a good rule to have in place. But I highly doubt some six or seventh graders would do something that degrading in school. This "no hugging" rule is definitely going to cause problems between students and teachers. If the hug is like a simple "hello" hug, like I give my friends everyday, then there should be no problem. So if the students prove that it is just a friendly hug and not anything more, they might get the rule abolished. In my opinion, I don't think that this story should have been on national news. There are far worse situations in schools that need to be addressed before a "no hugging" rule. BULLYING! They need to more about that than just talk about hugging, you know? But I can't control what's on the news.
I think it would cause & prevent problems because as one parent said hugging can lead to something more but as the children explain sometime someone needs a hug and you shouldn't get in trouble for trying to cheer someone up. In some what no because I don't think it's a real problem at the time.

The "no hugging rule" doesn't make any sense. There are other issues schools should be worried about.
