What do you think? Should the officer be fired? Why or why not? In regards to gays in the military, do you agree with the "don't ask, don't tell" policy or the open gay policy? Why?

I think that it's old news. This happened four years ago it should stay in the past. I don't think that the officer should be fired. He's one of the top officers in the U.S. Navy so he must be good at his job. I agree with the open gay policy. Let the people do what they want to do.
I don’t think he should be fired because the video was made four years ago and if they wanted to fire him they should’ve done it back then. However, I don’t think he should get off completely for it because it was an inappropriate video filmed at a work place. I think if he wanted to produce a video like this he should’ve done it at home. I think that gays have a right to be in the military if they want to. However, the only reason I would support “don’t ask don’t tell” is because being openly gay may cause conflict among people in the service.
I think this is weird for a Captain to make a wierd video. I think he should keep his job because it is hard to replace someone at a top level without much experience. I really do not care about gay people, because you decide what you want to be. I think everyone should beleive in themselves and do what is best for them.
I think that the officer shouldn't be fired over something that stupid. This is because the video was made four years ago and if its such a big deal now it should of been then. I feel that people should express themselves in anyway possible. But, in regards to the military I think that everyone should use the don't ask don't tell policy. This is because you can't just tell one group of people that they can't say what they are while another group can. I think that if the gays feel that they should tell anyone who they really are they should have that right just like a straight man.

The video seems to be a way for the sailors to blow of some steam. I don’t agree with the gay bashing though. Gay’s are people just like anyone else just seen differently and therefore treated badly. I’m not sure firing would be the best approach. The Navy could demote him but the armed forces need men and women with experience. I don’t agree with “the don’t ask don’t tell” policy. Our Constitution says that we can’t discriminate against others and all men are equal. This policy goes against that right.
I don't know what to think about the video. The officer should not be fired because it was just a video on a ship during war time. It was his own freedom of speech and he should not be punished. I agree with the "don't ask, don't tell" policy because some people are uncomfortable with the gays in the military. It is a lifestyle they choose and the world does not need to know what they do.
I think the officer should be fired. His job is not to put people down for being themselves be that gay or not. I agree with the open gay policy. The don't ask, don't tell policy is just another way to make someone feel like they can't be themselves and lead to low self-esteem. Who says that just because you are gay, you can't defend our country like any straight person.
I do not believe that this act was professional on the officer’s part. I do not believe he should be fired for this but I do believe there should be consequences. As for the “don’t ask, don’t tell policy”, I am not bothered by it at all. I believe that a gay man or woman can “pull a trigger” just as well as a straight man. As long as these men and women do not make their fellow troops uncomfortable with conversation about being gay or things of that nature, I see no problem with it.
I don’t know what to think really, they didn’t give a whole lot of information about the subject. If the “gay-bashing” was by given consent, then it is really not a big deal. Sure if the videos did serious damage to the crew and people involved then, yes action needs to be taken. It all depends on what actually happened, if the officer should be fired or not. I mean sure it seems inappropriate for a high-ranking officer to do such a thing, but they were on cruise, they needed something to make them forget why what they were doing was so important. If it was harmless entertainment to keep the crew happy them, it is in a way okay. I agree with the “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy because it should not matter as long as everyone keeps things in their pants.
I don't know if he should be fired, honestly I don't agree with what he did it was wrong and you should not be disrespecting gays. I don't think they should restrict gays from the military either. Gays work with us on a daily basis, we see them at school, and they are also police officers, yet they have restricted them in the military. I don't understand how it works but its not right to discriminate because of sexual orientation.
This captain has a responsibility to do what’s right from wrong. He is given a job of duty in the Navy to protect and serve his country and people. Is this what you call protecting? I don’t think that this is what the American nation wants to see coming from high level officers. I do not think that this officer should be fired but I do think he should have a suspension of some sort to fix his issues. With gays being in the military I really don’t see anything wrong with it. People are going to do as they please either way. I think that people need to get over the fact that there are gay people in this world because they are a human being just as your family and friends are.
This video made by a naval official is very childish. I think he should be fired. Why would a serious naval official make such an offensive video to broadcast? This shows he isn't serious about his job and that he lacks to think of consequences before actions. This represents the U.S as a joke in my opinion.
I do not think the officer should be fired. The interviewer said himself that this kind of thing happens regularly in the navy and I am sure it happens in other branches as well. I believe that there should be some punishment but not to the extent of a court marshal. I don’t really have a problem with gay people in the military. If they are willing to die for our country they should be given the same respect as straight men and women.
I think that the officer has problems and i do think he should be fired because he was bein racial of other people and their same gender beliefs. In regards to gays in the military i agree with the open gay policy because it shouldn't matter if they like the same gender because it's their choice and not any body else's.

I think that the videos were inappropriate. He should be fired. He is a top commander in the US Navy. He should be an example to others that he is leading. You can have a good time and blow off some steam without using profanity and other suggestive content. I do not agree with the lifestyle that gays live, but I don't believe they should be discriminated against in the Navy.
I think he should be fired because I think what he did was wrong. I do agree with the policy. I think if you are gay you should not tell anyone and just serve your time and when you get home go ahead and do your thing.
I think it was wrong but the officer should not be fired but face other displanery action. I have no comment about the don't ask don't tell policy.
I think the officer should be fired. I think as a lead officer, he should know his limits. He should set examples, not foolishness. I don't really have an answer regarding to gays being in the military.
This is just crazy. Maybe he should be fired because he should know better. As a leader, he should have been more careful and considerate of other's feelings. I don't agree with the "don't ask, don't tell" policy because it was just another form of dicrimination. I don't see way a gay person can't serve openly in the military without being targeted. Apparently, they love their country just as much as others that serve. People should really think before they act.
I heard about the officer on the news last night. I was freaked out when I heard about what the officer had done. I think that the officer should be fired and possibly serve some time in jail. I think that the officer is perverted. The don’t ask don’t tell policy is what I agree with. You don’t want to sleep next to a gay dude on a ship for six months.
I think he shouldn't be fired. If a comedian did this, everyone would be laughing. I don't really care if homosexual people want to serve our country. They should be allowed to do whatever they want.
I don't think it was smart for the officer to put those videos out in public. It's not the best thing for everyone else to see, especially if kids see this on the news. I don't know if he takes his job seriously by the look of this video. I think people who are gay in the military should speak up if they want or just keep it to themselves if they want to also. It's not fair, though, that gay people are so discriminated against.

I don't really understand this whole video to be honest. He shouldn't have made a video in the first place, knowing it would start up something. He is probably going to loose his position because of this whole situation. I guess he should have just watched what he said because everyone takes things differently. I don't think he should be fired, but I guess they will just do what they want, who knows.
I don't think he should be punished. His crew doesn't think he did anything wrong. I don't think that the don't ask don't tell policy matters. I think he shouldn't be punished, he's a graduate of the naval academy. I think his pay should be cut or he should be demoted to a lower rank.
I do not agree with what he did. I do believe he should be fired. He can be the way he wants but it does not need to be put out in public. If you’re gay you can be gay but if you want to be in the military just do not make it so public. People can do what they believe is right though.
I think that this is all just so nasty. I mean why would you even put that up there for everyone to see.The officer don't need to be fired I just think that he should get a different punishment for this. This would be something you would expect for someone else not for and officer. I don't really agree with the "don't ask, don't tell" policy I just think it would be better to keep it to yourself sometimes.
I do not think he should be fired. I think that is his opinion so he can say what we want about gays. I do not think he should have made the videos though. I don’t really care about the “don’t ask don’t tell”, like if that’s what they like then it shouldn’t matter to the government nor the people cause they still serving their country.
I think the officer should be fired because he put nude videos of himself and others out for the world to see. And this happen with military matters. It was just so inappropriate to show. I agree with the don't ask , don't tell policy because, they wouldn't be talking about firing him if he hadn't have violated the rights and didn't expose it all in the first place.
I personally do not think he should have made the home videos. That is just my thoughts on it though, but a big deal is being made over it for only one reason. The reason that such a big deal is being made over the home videos is cause some of the officers make gay jokes.Which is not at all what officers should be doing to relieve stress. I don't think the officer should be fired, but he should be on probation for a year for his misconduct. I hate to say it but I agree with both. Gays should be allowed to be in the military openly.I mean they have rights just like other people so why deny them a good paying job where they can defend their country? The answer is there is no reason to not let them serve in the military. The military just refuses to allow gays to openly be in the military. Both policies allow gays to be in the military, its just that one says you can not be open about being gay. That is the only difference between the two policies. So I can not take sides with either.
I don't know why he made this video four years ago. Especially, when you have a high-ranked position in the Navy. I don't think he should be fired because their just now finding out about this video and they're just now bringing it up now. I agree with it, it sounds like a policy that will work in the future.
