Should Fairfax County allow the service dog in school? Why or why not?

I think they should let the dog in school. If this dog prevents Andrew from having a seizure then they should let the dog in the school with him. Without his service dog he's probably going to spend a lot of his time in the hospital trying to go to school without his dog preventing these seizures. The dog is strictly for the well-being and health of Andrew.

The child clearly needs to have the dog with him at all times. Therefore, to go to school, he will need to bring the dog with him. I understand that the school does not trust having an animal inside the building that is not in a cage or tank, even though the dog is a “trained service dog”. It does not seem fair but, special changes can sometimes cause problems. Having a special person to accompany the dog may make the school feel better about allowing the dog into school.

Yes. The school should allow a service dog to help a child with seizures. I don't understand why they wouldn't allow a trained service dog to help a kid. He needs to go to school and it's hard to go without his dog.

They should allow him to take the dog to school with him. The schools only excuse is that the dog might create a hazardous situation but the dog has obviously been trained. I think it’s ridiculous that they won’t let the dog come to school with him. The school should be concerned about the child’s health and do whatever it can to help. If they really wanted to help, like they claim, then they should work with the parents to make it possible to bring the dog.

I think the Fairfax County should let the service dog in school because it helps for an emergency. The Fairfax County needs to look into this and should saw it is only right for him to have a dog. When something happens and the dog is not there then no one would know what is going on. The dog is there for help and if I looked into this case, I would let the dog into the building.

Fairfax County should allow the dog in school with Andrew. He is a service dog that aids a young boy and can help prevent things that could virtually harm him. A service dog is trained to obey commands and stick with his owner the whole time. It might be a distraction at first while the other kids got used to the dog but even Andrew is a distraction with his condition. The dog should be allowed anywhere with him at all times.

The school should let the dog in the school. He is there for the kid’s health; it’s almost kind of like a kid with asthma carrying their inhaler with them. What is the school going to do if the boy has a seizure in the middle of the day? If the dog is there the entire situation could be prevented. I don’t really see why the school is worried about the dog being safe. It is a service dog trained for health purposes, if it was a guard dog I would understand but it is not a guard dog. I just think that the entire situation is stupid.

Yes, I do think that Fairfax County should allow the service dog in school because if he has a seizer he might die but if the dog was there she could sense that it is going to happen and she can stop it by sending a shock to the boy's brain through her collar.

I do not understand why the school's won't allow the service dog into the school. As long as the dog has been trained by a certified service dog company, the dog should be allowed. With the severity of Andrew's eplilepsy, Allia is greatly needed.

They should let Andrew’s service dog accompany him in school. I don’t believe the dog would be a safety hazard for the other children. The dog is specially trained for his disorder and would keep him safe. The dog is trained to be obedient and faithful. It would behave.

Fairfax County should definitely allow the service dog in school. The dog can help save that little boy's life. It is trained how to act in public with people. I do believe that there is a chance that any dog could turn on people, but the chances of that happening with a service dog are slim. If having a trainer there to handle the dog will make the school feel better then I think the parents should just go with it so their son can have somewhat of a normal childhood.

I don't like dogs. Dogs don't like me. For that reason it shouldn't be allowed in Fairfax County Schools. I hope Andrew gets an education and does really good in life. I'm glad that they have come to compromise and let him live a normal life, but if there was anyone in that school who's like me that dog shouldn't be there.

The right thing Fairfax County should do is allow this service dog in school. Andrew didn’t ask to have epilepsy. He doesn’t have control over his brain like we do. Aliah is a dog that has been properly trained for these special situations. She has saved this boy’s life many times. I’m sure without the help of this dog Andrew will be having a much harder time. Not allowing a dog that is clearly trained into a school is ridiculous. Let Andrew live somewhat of a normal life. I do understand why Fairfax County will not allow this because if they let a dog in others will question the safety of their children.

I believe that the dog should be allowed in schools. I don’t see how it would be fair to keep them out. Andrews’s dog can sense seizures before they happen no person can do that. I can see that there would be security issues but these could be worked out. I believe that any chance for a young boy to have a normal life should be taken.

I think that everyone has a right to learn in school. Andrew should be able to take his service dog to school to make it through the school day. If the school system has a problem with having a service dog they should find a school for Andrew to go that allows him to use one. This is because no child should be left out from bettering his education.

I do believe they should let the service dog back in school. It helps the little boy navigate.

I think that they should let him take the dog to school. I think they should because I think he should be able to do all the things every other kid can. I hope they let him go to school.

I have mixed emotions about the dog in school. I think that if the dog can help the kid then he should be allowed. However kids might be allergic to the dog. The kid has problems and I don’t know how much a dog can help him in school. Maybe he can get a dog that is hairless then there won’t be a problem.

I think they should allow the service dog in the school. If the doctor said he should have a service dog with him, then the school district should allow him to do that. It could be very dangerous when he starts having really bad seizures if his dog wasn't there. It would be a very good way to start an organization for children who need service dogs. I can't imagine going through what Andrew has to deal with.

This is a perfect example of how schools have gone crazy with the small amount of power they have. The boy has a servere medical condition. If he doesn't have the dog, who is going to take care of his seizures? They should just get a handler and call it a day.

They should allow the service dog in school. The dog must be well trained to be walking around with the boy in the first place. People are quick to talk about the safety of the children when there isn't really a problem, but when there is a major problem they don't know how to act. The dog doesn't seem like a major threat to me. I would just let the boy go to school with the dog so he can be like normal children.

Farifax County should allow the dog to come into the school to help the little boy. If the boy were to go to school and have a seziure, the dog could detect it and help him faster than anyone else. I understand the school's concern for the other students and teachers, but they could work something out. Maybe someone could go to school with the boy to help handle the dog.

I think Fairfax County should allow the service dog in school. I think this because everyone should have the equal opportunity to learn. Change is good and for the better. If police can bring dogs in school, why can't a student with a serve medical condition?

I would be upset with the school for not letting him bringing the dog. It to me, is just common sense to have the dog. I'm also wondering why the parents don't just put the boy in a different school? Or maybe they should just get him to be home schooled. I think that they should allow the dog in school just for him.

I think they should allow the dog in the school. I know if I had a son I would want him to be aloud to have his dog watching over him. I think the parents should try to home school him possibly. But I mean schools are supposed to help every student, and not just single someone out because they have a disorder. I feel really bad for the guy, I know the parents are good because I don't know how I would act if that was my son. I wish them all the best and hopefully the school will come to realize they should let him have his dog. :)

Yes , they should allow the dog in school. Even though some students my be allergic to dogs the boy should get a special classroom. He can't help that he has seizures. That is horrible , its bad enough that a mother has to worry about her son every second of his life. I say let the dog go to school with the boy.

I think that Fairfax County should allow the dog in school.I mean the dog is is the boy's help whenever he needs it if something goes wrong. And if someone tried to fight or attack the boy the dog would be there to help him out of trouble. I think it's absolutely a good idea for them to allow this. Especially for the little boy with Epilepsy.

Yes Fairfax county should allow the dog to go to school with the boy.Seeing as the dog can detect when the boy is having a seizer. If the dog can help with the boy's medical issues then they should allow her to accompany him to school.Seeing as she can help him if he has the need for her to do so.Also the dog is trained to detect the seizers so why not allow her?The answer to this is simple, the should not not allow the dog to help if she can and in this case she can. The way I see it is if the boy needs the dog then the two should be together.Seeing as he does need the dog,the school should not be fighting to keep the dog off of school grounds. When the school clearly knows that the boy needs his dog. That is just my thought on this particular subject.

I think that it is kind of messed up that the school would not let the boy take his service dog. It’s not his fault he has seizures. I believe they should allow him to bring his dog into school. It's not like the dog is going to hurt anyone. The dog is already trained and everything.
