Confederate Flag Lawsuit Dismissed
Do you agree with the judge's decision? Why or why not? Do you think students at WHS should be allowed to wear clothes with the Confederate flag symbol? In the article, the school had recently been through serious racial conflicts. Do you think a school's past should play a part in whether or not students are allowed to wear clothes with the Confederate flag symbol? Why or why not?

There is absolulty nothing wrong with the Confederate flag. It was once a part of the Virginia State Flag. It was a symbol of the south and there is nothing racial about it. If you know your history, you won't be offended. It is a part of our history and we have a right to represent it as we will.
There is a difference between racial gestures and just showing your heritage. When students wear such clothing and mean it in a way ion which they are being racial it is wrong. In the examples that happened that this school, yes, it was wrong. No I don’t believe that a schools history should decide whether they should be allowed to wear such symbols. I believe this because things change. AS people move to different area in the world they should not have to think twice about whether to seen their kids to a certain school because of racial indifferences.

I think that wearing a Confederate Flag belt buckle is freedom of speech. It was wrong for those people to put up racial slurs at the school. But being a Southern boy myself, I am proud of what heritage I come from. I am in no way backing up racist people, but the belt buckle was just freedom of speech. I think the past has something to do with the epidemic.

I agree with the judge’s decision. I think that the student should be able to wear the confederate flag belt. As long as the student wasn’t trying to exercise racism or anything like that. In my opinion me knowing that the school had previous accounts of racist acts then I would not wear the belt just to keep away from problems. Personally I do not think that the school can tell the student not to wear the belt, I think it should be done out of the students will.

I can see where the judge is coming from. Having students act in a such way is disrespectful. I think students at WHS should watch what they wear. Someone could take it the wrong way. A lot of kids do wear the Confederate flag symbol. A school's past should definitely play a part in whether or not students are allowed to wear clothes with the Confederate flag. You never know who will take things offensive.

I do agree with the judge's decision. People should not be mean towards people of other races. Yes, I do think students at Windsor High School should be allowed to wear clothes with the Confederate flag symbol on them, because it should be their choice if they choose to wear something like that or not. If there were problems with students being mean then being able to wear what they want should be taken away from them. No, I don't think a school's past should play a part in whether or not students are allowed to wear clothes with the Confederate flag symbol.

I do believe that the judge should have dismissed the lawsuit, we as people should be able to wear what ever kind of flag you want. The Confederate Flag is not a symbol of racism, it is a symbol of the south. If people do not know that they need to study some world history. I personally wear the Confederate Flag to school, yet no one says anything to me. The school had, had reent problems of racism, but I do not believe that it should effect what they wear. I have seen both white, black, mexican, and asian wear the Confederate Flag, it jsut depends on if you are from the north or the south.

I do not agree with the judge's decision. I believe should be able to express themselves as long as it is not disturbing others from learning. I think students who want to wear clothes with the Confederate flag should be able to wear it to school. I do believe that if their was a past racial conflict, they should have banned others from wearing these clothes. I do not understand why people can not just get along.

I think the judges dicison could have been changed but, possibly was blind to the fact that no matter what the issue people, kids are going to be rude or take and issue out of hand. WHS has some country folk in it and have grew up with that in there family, so i wouldn't say ban it i would just say to be aware that somthing could happen. Schools try to make a safe place to learn but at the same time it is freedom of speech through apperience. Also school already regulate so much so what would it matter if it's just one more thing.

No I don’t agree with the judges decision, because it might mean one thing to one person and also makes other students mad. Me as a student yes I think they should but in a reasonable manor ,not with all these word around it. Yes I think the school’s past should because you wouldn’t want it to happen again. There should not have the same incident happen twice for childish mistake as in not watching closer. No one should be punished just more careful.

I do agree with the judge's decision because I don't think this issue was important enough to go to federal court. Federal courts should spend there time dealing with murder cases and serious crimes instead of little things, such as this case. Students at our school do frequently wear clothes that display the Confederate flag. As long as the flag doesn't cause a problem or disrupt learning, I think that students should have the right to wear clothes with the symbol, but they should realize that it may be offensive to some of there classmates. A school's past should have some influence on whether students are allowed to wear a Confederate flag symbol. If a school has previous problems with it, the attire shouldn't be allowed because it will most likely cause corruption in the school.

I really don’t agree with the judge’s decision. I don’t think student at WHS should be allowed to wear the shirts either. Wearing the shirt causes conflict between students too. Yes, because if I was racial tent ion then it still would till present day. The flag has stood for racism for so long and other student who don’t know about the flag could think it means that too. -Alia H.
Yes i do agree with the judges decision. The reason why i agree with the judges decision is because it wasnt that serious to take to court.Yes because the already where it . Students at WHS has a big confederate flag hangin of their truck. Yes if they had racial conflicts before/
-Schatese Collins
I do not agree fully with the judge’s decisions, because the student could be wearing the flag because of racism and in some cases it could’ve been because of heritage. To me it doesn’t matter whether the students wear Confederate flags or not. If a person chooses to be racist that’s up to them. It’s not good neither is it right to be racist but sometimes u can’t change people minds on how they feel about certain things. I do not think that the schools past should play a part in whether the students are allowed to wear clothes with the Confederate flag symbol. All students may not be the same. Some students may wear the flag because of heritage and not race.

I honestly don't care. I don't wear rebel flags or anything so it doesn't matter to me. I think that if someone wants to wear it, then just let them wear it. They're not trying to be racist or anything. It all depends on the schools past on what they decide for the future.
Caleb Stowe
I think that the judge's decision was a good one. Students should be allowed to wear just about whatever they want as long as it isn't exposing anything inappropriate. The Confederate flag is not a bad thing, people just use it as an excuse to call someone else racist. I don't think the past plays a part in anything at the moment, I just think that people are doing it just to fit in with their friends. Students SHOULD be allowed to wear it unless they portray racism along with it.
No, I don't agree with the judges decision. It is obvios that in this case it is for racism. I think that students at WHS should be allowed to wear them because it's not racism here. I think that the school's past should play a part in the deciosion of wearing the flag, there is obviously racial issues there.

Yes I do agree with the judge's decision. I think that people should be able to wear the Confederate flag, only if they do not mean it racist. Students should be allowed to wear the flag at WHS. That certain school shouldn't be able to, however, because they've had so many racial problems. It should have something to do with whether they should be able to wear it, but then again, freedom of speech. So I think it depends on the school whether students should wear it or not.
Erica Owens
I disagree with this decision 100 percent! I think us WHS students should be allowed to wear the Confederate Flag because there own belief and it's history. Some people has family that was part of the Civil War. And they think it was interesting and was a fight for this country of ours. Now it's pretty much a peace symbol... Well it depends of the past. If someone wears something, people shouldn't care about it, it's something really important or serious.
-Craig St.
I think that it's your own style and we should be able to wear what we want as long as were not insulting anyone. I do think that there are some people who do it out of hate. I just like the south, so that is the only reason I wear it. I do not agree with it for those reasons but I do agree with it because it will end up causing fights between people. So I have mixed feelings about it I guess.
~Kayla(:
I agree with the judge's decision because I think people take thing to seriously especially when they do not ask questions before voicing an opinion. Honestly, I DO CARE, but it may be offense to certain people so just to keep peace I would say no WHS students should not wear the confederate flag. I mean it is common sense if your school has had racial problems in the past, to dismiss any type of signs or words that will cause conflict. Therefore, yes I do think that play a part in whether or not they should wear clothing with to confederate flag. Although I think it is stupid because we are not in the 1980's or whenever it was that the flag was racist!!!!!
~Andrea Johnson
My opinion on the Confederate flag thing is mixed. To me, it’s not a really big deal if certain people wear it because it was the South's flag, but on the other hand certain people take it way too far. I understand if someone wants to wear it because they like the style or symbol, but they need to realize that it was the south's flag, and the south wanted slavery which is how a lot of people take the flag to represent. A lot of people get offended by the flag, especially when certain people wear it everyday or talk about it constantly. I think each person should just think about other people's feelings. Also, to me if a school has had a past with gang violence or any racial problems the flag could play a big part in that. If you band gang thing but still have racial arguments then maybe the flag should be band, but to me it depends on the school and situation.
-Amber Bass
I do not agree with the judge's decision. If the school system's dress code bans it then why shouldn't he be punished? Some people are offended by that symbol because they believe it is a sign of racism. I do not think students at Windsor High School should be allowed to wear the Confederate flag symbol. Yes the school's past should play a part in whether the students are allowed to where the confederate flag symbol because they may be wearing it to display racism and for meanness.
~Shaquii
I do not think that students should be able to wear confederate flags to school because it causes disruption and fights. Though not everyone who wears the Confederate flag is racist, the flag represents a group of people who thought that it was okay to have people as slaves. The flag also represents heritage to those who fought and died in the war, but most people who think of it think of racism. And if something is thought to be racist, it should not be allowed to be worn at school. For those who say that the flag is just a symbol, take a look at the swastika. It has been around for ages, starting in the Neolithic era of our world; around 6,000 years ago. This symbol is used in the Buddhist and Hindu religion and is still used today in that part of the world. For being such a religious symbol, the Nazi party in Germany during the 1930’s-1940’s used it as their symbol and they persecuted almost six million Jewish people. If any student were to wear such a symbol to school spouting religious reasons, he would be expelled on the grounds of racism. So though the flag may have a double meaning, one of the meanings is support for a party that supported slavery. It is not okay to wear it to school no matter what you mean by it.-♦Nick☻Powell♦™
I do agree with the judge because I think that people should be able to express themselves in anyway they want. It states in the constitution that we have the freedoms to express ourselves. To me its just a flag that mean alot to some people its in their family heratige and its not harming anyone. Slavery has been abolished and is no longer legal and there arent anymore slaves around. So there should not be anyone taken offense to the flag. The students that attend the school now werent slaves and neither were their parents so I personally think they should get over it and let it go. If people keep bringing up the past how are we gonnna ever let it go. My dads family is very much into the confederacy and have many colored friends. Just because you have the flag does not mean your racist. The flag represents freedom thats why we had the civil war, and no one should have the right to take it from them. I sont think that schools should have the right to take the flags away because there not specifically stating any racial slang and not puttin' anyone on the spot so they just need to let it go.
Brittany
I kind of agree with the judges decision to dismiss it because its not that big of a deal, but i understand why some people would be offended. I don't think that they should be able to wear clothes with it up there because it should be like the rules that forbid clothes that have gang signs or messages on it. Now I know goodness well if I came to school with the Nazi sign on I would get in trouble. Not because of what it is, but because of what it stands for. Which is exactly why most people get upset because everyone knows or should know what that flag stands for. I think that the school's past racial conflicts should definitely play a part of what they're allowed to wear because if they have really serious conflicts in the past then it shouldn't be allowed.
-Summer Wilson
No I do not disagree with the judge decision of allowing WHS students to wear clothes with the Confederate flag. Becasue the Conferdrate flag means a terrible thing to the African Americans back in the days. I think a School's past shouldn't play a part in whether or not students are allowed to wear clothes with the Confederate flag symbol. Because no school in the United States of America should wear the Confedrate flag.

I do agree with the judge’s decision. I agree with the judge because of the racist history that the school has. I don’t think that they should simply because it could cause a huge distraction in the class, and other students could get defended because some people wear it for the wrong reasons. I think the past history of the school should effect whether or not the students should be able to wear the Confederate flag. Like I said before I don’t think that they should so they could avoid any unwanted problems.
-Roielle <3
I think that he shouldn't have been brought for court for that but at the same time if he knew that he wasn't allowed to wear it he shouldn't have. Just for safety issues I don't think that it should be allowed on school grounds but also, seen it hasn't become an issue why bother something that doesn't have issues. Like I said mention before if it isn't a problem, why make it one? After, yesterday I noticed that some people feel strongly about but, you know what I give up on caring about this situation.
No I don't think the judge made the right decision, because the boy didn't deserve to be sued for a little symbol on his belt. I think that students should be able to choose if they think its right or wrong and decide to either stop wearing it or keep it a design of choice. Even though the school had a little racial dispute they shouldn't attack one design or item. I mean it's really stupid to go suing and expelling kids because of items on their clothing. The reason for this is many kids wear symbols from the past to show heritage pride. James St. Peter
