I completely disagree with Obama. If he makes the school days longer, the drop out rate will increase, including me. I think that we attend school for a good amount of time. I also believe that younger kids need to be able to go home and have time to there self, they do not need to be stuck in a school all day. Obama is being rediculous with this school thing, he should leave the times we go alone, if he makes our days and year longer, there will be less people making it to graduation.

After this year I don't care too much I’m going to college, so I really won’t have that summer off anymore. I do think it could help speed up the process of kids going to college and starting their life but, I also know that kids look forward to the brake off from school and it could turn up there would be more drop outs because there is no summer vacation.

I disagree strongly with the ideas of more school time. I believe that we spend a lot of time in school and we are not able to spend time with our family. With the regular school day and then after school programs students are struggling to finish homework in a reasonable time and get things done at home. Taking vacation time away from students would also take away time from the teachers and staff. The summer vacation is the time when families take trips and just spend time with each other with the new policy in place it would be hard for families to continue their traditions. With the economy the way it is going to school longer would make the schools have to put out more money for things such as electricity and pay roll for the teachers. I believe that we as students spend enough time in school.

I disagree with Obama’s idea. I disagree because I think that our school days and years are long enough. Our Weekend is only 2 out of 5 days and I think that is fair. Also our summer vacation is only like 3 months and I think that is just long enough for us to enjoy ourselves. In my opinion I believe that even though the summer is a break for kids, it still can be a period of time to learn and experience new things. Just because kids may not be learning the basic school subjects doesn’t mean they aren’t learning anything at all.

I disagree with President Obama. I feel that we go to school long enough to learn what we are suppose to learn. Staying a couple hours later is too much. The day goes by slow enough. I realize that he wants us to be able to compete with the other countries, but sometimes you have to learn the fact that the other countries are contained of smarter students. We wouldn't even have time to do our homework if we stayed a couple hours longer. Since I play sports I would not have any time at all. It's fine the way it is.

I think Obama is out of his mind. I think that adding school time and cutting a month out of Summer Break is just crazy. I also think that the plan will be shut down in Congress, at least I hope so. Because If it doesn't, a lot of people will be upset and angry at Obama.

I think that it would be a good idea for us all to get better education but unfortunatly not all of us can. I personally come from a very poor family and I have to work hard to help. Summer is a very important time for some of us to go to work and save up money if not for the home then for our future and our childrens future. If he took that away from some of us we couldn't be able to better ourselves. Yes we would be able to get more into education but how far would we get if we couldn't work? If Perry and I didn't work to help our family we would loose our house. If we lost our house we wouldn't be in school. If he takes summer away from us he will be bettering some but for others, we would fall.

I do not agree with President Obama with making school day's longer. I believe that summer vacation is short as it is already. I believe nine months in school is enough time to spend in school. If they would extend the school day, I think I might just walk right out of the school. If you think that kids are not doing well in school think again. It's just that some students do not care about their academic grades.

I strongly disagree with making school days longer and shorting summer vacations. Students have a hard time making it through the school as it is. Most students are sleeping in class and are not alert. Many students wouldn’t want to participate in after school activates any more. First things students would think when they get out of school is I have homework and I want to go home and go to sleep. -Alia H.

I do not agree with President Obama's idea of increasing school time. Children already spend about seven hours a day, five days a week in school. In my opinion, and I'm sure most other kids would agree, that we spend enough time in school. Students need time outside of school to do fun things with their families and friends. If student's aren't doing well in school then it is their own fault and decision, making the school days longer won't help anything i don't think. It will just make students mad and not want to listen to what the teacher is saying. If President Obama increases the amount of time that students spend in school, it would make a lot of people angry.

I think that longer school days and shorter summer vacation have benefits and faults. No student wants to sit in a classroom any longer than they have to. Life is already busy enough as it is and longer school days would just add onto the stress. The extra time would help us to grasp academic concepts because we would have more time to receive help from teachers. If this did go into affect, it would make it hard for schools to have sport teams with games and practices. Most nights athletes are already staying up late doing homework and that's when we get out a normal time. I can only imagine how late our nights would be since we would have even less time to complete assignments.

I truly think that schools days should not be longer for many reasons. We spend a lot of time in school as it is. Most of our day is in school which gives us no time to do anything else. We need time to spend with our families, and if the school days are longer that won’t happen. Some kids drop out of school, because they feel that school is to long and boring. Kids miss many days of school and result in failing a grade. If Obama do decide to make school days longer I don’t think it will make things better.

I disagree with our President. Why should we have to cut our summer vacation, it is a time for us to spend time with our family and friends and enjoy it. Not to rush to get ready for school. You would think as President with two kids he would understand that us as kids have a lot of work to do and really we don’t have a lot of time to do it in. Us as high school students we have jobs. Most adults want their children to stay in school so they don’t have to deal with them. People need to realize kids have short attention spans and get bored very easy so if we were to go to school longer and have a shorter summer we as kids would have a high drop out rate. Trust I know the President doesn’t want that. I believe we are fine with what we doing now we don’t need to change it. The President needs to worry about the world problem we are having and leave us as students stay the same.

Well I feel like it isn’t right because when a child has to get up every morning at an early time and go school it’s very tiresome because you can’t doze off to sleep pin class if you are tired. Kids deserve to have 3 months worth of summer vacation because they have worked hard to achieve to go to the next grade level. I mean I understand what they are trying to do but most kids wouldn’t like it at all. For me as an example I have to get up 5:00 in the morning to get ready for school and that is entirely too early. At times I have to sacrifice to get up that extra early so I can have plenty of time to get ready for school. In the article it says that kids should go to school on weekends. Now that is just crazy right there after a week of school the kids should have the weekends to rest not been going to school.

I know Obama is our president. But is he out of his mind. I think that we go to school long enough in the United States. I don't think we should stay longer in school because we have teen mothers out here who need to tend to their kids after they get out of school. Also think about the little kids who are just starting school and want to go home and play. So No i don't think that we should stay in school.

I definitely disagree with Obama’s proposal to make school days longer. It’s not because I don’t like school, because I do, but I don’t think that being stuck in a building for the majority of the day is beneficial. The system that we have is working fine. You get enough time during school, and if the student is struggling, they should take it upon themselves to stay after with a teacher. I also don’t think that making school last longer throughout the year is a good idea because when will the teacher have time to improve their curriculum. They need time look at the past school year and change things to make their objectives better, or change a method, or even add new ideas. Taking away from our summer vacation is taking away more than a time to relax and let your brain breath, it’s taking away from the time teachers and staff need to make improvements for the upcoming year. Another reason I don’t agree with Obama is the fact that school is more than educating people; it’s leading the student body to become young adults. I don’t think that adding class time will do so. I believe that allowing time for us to actually experience life outside of school will be more effective then trapping us inside closed doors. Mallory Horne

I disagree with Obama's opinion. Students get plenty of time in school and DO NOT need more. If we ever had our school day extended then we should have our school year shortened. If Obama was in school he wouldn't want longer school hours and years. He needs to look through the eyes of the kids, then he would realize WHY kids can't take much more school.

I disagree with this! I don't mind going to school and all, but I don't want to be here any longer than I am now. We're in school just about all year, it's so nice to sit and relax for THREE months. I enjoy my summer with my friends and I barely get to see them while school is in session, then I have homework. Summer vacation is the break time we students need to catch up with old friends. Obama, please don't take that away!

I definitely do not agree. Not just because I want to do less work, but because the work we do in school is enough for us. In my classes, I all ready have a lot of work and a long bus ride. We're still kids, we need time to ourselves. We are trained to do the jobs we have in America, so that's all we need to do. We're not Chinese and Obama needs to keep it that way.

I feel if it will happen people we go off about that they have to do school during the summer. I will say mom I can not do this I'm dropping out of school. I feel parents will have a problem with their children going to school. But I will have a real big problem with big time.My head will started to spin if I had to go to school on my summer vacation.

Well I totally disagree with Obama. It is wrong to do this, this has been going on for many years now. It's wrong to change our history, especially if no one wants it to change. I love change, but this is to extreme. We need a break and need free time from school instead of writing 24/7. Also some families need to spend time together... Plus, some families need more money, so teenagers go to work during the summer. So I disagree

I agree and disagree with Obama's decision because some kids don't even like the fact that you have to come to school so why make the days longer. I also agree because some people need the extra hours just to catch up on work and to learn stuff that they could'nt quite get during regular hours. Im not sure though why Obama comes up with this stuff. I mean I understand that he is the President of the United States but why make us kids lives worser by making us stay in school longer each day?(lol)I love you Obama!-Cadeja Wilson

I disagree with his opinion. We deserve summer vacation because we work hard each and every day in school. Him talking about making our school days longer, he has done lost his mind. I am at a safe place at my house. I seriously would have a breakdown if we had school that much. I honestly think he needs to chill out with the no school vacation and longer days. I think that he should leave things the way they are because everything is perfectly fine the way it is. I have a life and things to do beside sit in school each and every day. Some people have lives that don’t revolve around school all the time.

I am SORRY but I did not even have to read this article to give you my opinion. Know be honest I do not know one teacher who loves there job that much to want to be in a classroom more than they already have to. If there are, any students who want to be in school more it just a GEEK (sorry)!!!! It is ridiculous to be in school an extra 3 hours. Where will you find time to do after school activities, or even to do homework? This is just my opinion but, I think if you add more time to school than the drop out rate is only going to go up! Kids already hate school (especially the ones who are bullied, struggle with school, etc.) therefore, what makes you think they want to spend even more time at school?

I disagree with what President Obama is trying to do. I do agree that american students are not as educated as other kids across the globe and that there are some things that need to be done to fix this but increasing school hours and decrease summer break is not the solution. This increase in the amount of school time kids would have would mess up everyones schedule. Students would not be getting home until after 5 in most areas and then with homework you wouldnt have time to do anything. President Obama needs to remember that these are kids were talking about they still need to be kids and craming there lives with school all the time is not a healthy thing. Parents would go crazy trying to get all the homework done and dinner cooked, it would be late at night before the family finnaly settles down.

I some-what support what Obama is saying. I feel that they need to go through and look at each schools average SOL scores then determine if that school needs extra time added on. I believe this because we (kids) are the future and if we’re spending too much time partying and doing too much other negative things, our grades are dropping. Even if the school’s SOL scores are high, they should still focus in on the students who grades aren’t so good, and offer more tutoring prices. Another thing I believe they need to do is offer rewards for students who improve their grades.

I think he has lost his mind! Like really longer school days? No way! We're already in class for like an hour plus can you imagine how long classes would be if they were longer school days? I do not agree with him, I think I'm safe within the walls of my home. Nobody is taking away any of my summer vacation! He needs to forget all about this little thing because it will only make people not want to come to school.

When I found out about Obama wanting to change the school days at first I was like why would he want to, but I guess I know why but I disagree. He wants the U.S to be caught up with the rest of the world, but I think it would only make things worse. I think he could make our school work harder if he wanted us to catch up so badly, but making the days longer and our summer shorter would cause more kids to drop out and would also cost money to pay the teachers. The kids would hate to go to school because it would seem like you were pretty much always there. One of his main points is that 45 minutes in one class isn't enough, but we have block schedule. I know I would hate to go to school any longer than we go now.

I disagree with Obama's desire to curtail summer vacation and make school days longer. Because kids like to enjoy their summer vacation with their friends and family. And Summer vacation is the time to relax and not to think about school. Another reason why we shouldn't have curtail summer vacation is because some kids might have summer jobs. That's why we shouldn't extend school days and make summer vacation shorter.

I do not agree with Obama's desire to curtail the summer vacation and make school days longer. I disagree because we are already in school five days a week and like eight hours a day. When we get home we have to do homework and then it is basically time to go to bed and the same routine the next day. If the students do not learn anything during the school year, then they should be required to go to summer school. If the students go to school in the summertime as well as the regular school year then that is also more fuel the buses have to burn in order to carry the students to and from school.

I believe that increasing school hours will maybe have more positive effects on school grades, but students will probably not make more of an effort. Adding more hours is not necessary because students in America do not make an effort. Many students go to school because they see it as a social thing, and not a learning facility. If students made more of an effort in school during the day, I believe that our test scores could be equal, if not better, to the test scores in other countries. Saying that school hours are not long enough is foolish. Not enough effort in studies is where the problem lies. If school hours were increased, attendance in extra curricular activities would decrease as well. Already kids have to make a decision to give up their time to do other things and just adding on to that will have a negative effect. –Nick Powell™

Well, call me crazy but I am having mixed feelings about the situation. As much as I LOVE summer
(the season not Wilson ha-ha), I don't want to be put short of future jobs. Although, instead of cutting summer shorter than it already it is, maybe there can be some kind of mutual. With this situation it’s hard to say. For example, you don't want some immigrate getting a higher job than you. I guess I will just see in the future.

I don't like politics, so this is going to be hard to discuss. But I disagree with what he trying to do because all he is going to succeed in is a lot more dropouts. Because many Americans are lazy and don't like doing extra at anything thing most of them would give up because of the long hours of class and the little time left to hangout with friends. Not only would kids get tried of school and quit more teachers would get irritated or mad easier. So what I am saying is if this is passed most of America would be less educated. The only people that would be left in school would be nerds and geeks. James St. Peter
