Do you think banning telecommuting is a good or bad business decision for Yahoo and why? When you get a "grown-up" job one day, is flexibility to work from home something you think will be important to you? Why or why not? Should Marissa Mayer, the CEO of Yahoo, be able to work from home now that she's a new mom? Why or why not?

It is a bad decision because it is a computer company and they would do the same thing at home or at work. It would depend on whether it is and office job or something else. Marissa Mayer should not be able to work from home. The rule is that they can't do that.
BANNING telecommuting is a big deal. It will force working mothers to come in to work and find someone to watch her kids. So, some people may "walk". When I get a "grown-up" job one day I do not want to work from home. I want my home to feel like...home, rather than a work place. Home will be a place to escape all of the work, I don't want to get there and already feel overwhelmed. I strongly believe that work and home life should be separate.
It is not a good decision. Work at home can help many employees who otherwise could not make it to work or who want to see their family more. In a computer business it is very easy to do work from home. Management should be on site to do their jobs. Mayer should have to be their. Only after she is give leave to be with her baby.
I think banning telecommuting was a bit to far. However, I think that telecommuting should only be allowed in certain circumstances. But when I get a grown-up job, I personally think telecommuting would be important to me, because if I have a child, I would like to be able to take care of him/her and still get my work done. However, I don't think the CEO should be able to work from home. She of all people should abide by her own set rules.
I believe that this a bad idea because there on the computer no matter what. When I grow up my job that I want to have is be in the Marines then go into construction after the military, so being at home for me isn't recommended. No, I'm not saying this to be mean, but if she bans telecommuting for her workers then she should be held just as her workers.
Banning telecommuting is a bad thing. I want to be a teacher so I will be working from both. I do not think that I would want to work from home because I like to get out the house and go places. Marissa Mayers should get 18 weeks because that is what everybody gets after you have a baby. She should be able to take some days off or work different hours.
Banning telecommuting is a bad decision for Yahoo because you could do the same thing at home or in a office with a computer company. When I get a "grown-up" job, telecommuting would be important for me because I know I want kids one day, and I would want the option of staying home and taking care of them if they are sick. Marissa Mayer should not be able to work from home. She made the rules so she needs to stick with them as well.
Banning telecommuting is a horrible business decision for Yahoo! It will force workers to stay later at the office to finish work they could finish at home with their family. When I get a job, working from home will be something that I will probably do often. I work more efficiently in a home environment than I do in an office/classroom setting. Marissa Mayer SHOULD be able to work from home since she's a new mom, but if she is banning telecommuting then the rules should apply to her as well.
I'm not sure if banning telecommunication is a good or bad decision for Yahoo. Flexibility to work from home should be an option. For instance, new mothers should be able to work from home via telecommunication. Marissa Mayer shouldn't be allowed to work from home when she's a new mom because of the ban the company set. If Yahoo removed the ban, then there should be nothing wrong with Mayer working from home.
Banning telecommuting may not be the best decision for Yahoo. People that are already working from home are going to have to change their schedule completely. This could be a huge problem for new mom like Marissa Mayer, the CEO of Yahoo. If her employees can't work from home then she shouldn't be able to either. I wouldn't want to work from my home because I wouldn't want to be in the same place all the time.
I think banning telecommuting is a good thing. If your working from home, your more likely to slack and not do your job as well as you would at work. When I get a "grown-up" job one day, I wouldn't want to work at home. That's a place where I would like to relax and not have to worry about work. I don't think Marissa Myers, should work from home, just because she has such a huge responsibilty as the CEO of Yahoo.
In my opinion, banning telecommunication is wrong. If what the workers do can be done from home without ever coming into an office, then they should be able to do it from home. One day, when I have a job telecommuting will be a good thing, depending on the job. Because she banned telecommuting, Marissa Mayer should not be allowed to work from home. She should have to come into work everyday, just like every other employee of "Yahoo!". If the workers have to, the CEO is not above the law and has to too.
I think it is a bad business move, because some people are able to get more work done at home then in the work place. The company should really rethink the business move.Marissa Mayer should be able to work from her house. Just because she is a new mom don't mean she wont pay any less attention to her job. I mean she is the CEO I'm pretty sure she will find a away to handle both.

Banning telecommunicating is a bad business move. Some people are probably more focused at home than at home, and banning telecommunicating will force people to hire someone to watch their kids. I think flexibility will be important to me when I get a job. Marissa Mayer should allowed to work from home, because this affects her too.
Marissa Mayer is making a good business decision for Yahoo by banning telecommuting. Telecommuting tends to result in a lack of connection to the actual company. I am a people person, and I have never seen myself telecommuting. I would get cabin fever and drive myself crazy if I ever telecommuted. Marissa Mayer should be able to work from home since she's a new mom. On the other hand, Mayer will be called a hypocrite with many other comments if she decides to telecommute.
Telecommuting has is its pros and cons.Overall I think it's good because for one the job is still gonna get done regardless if their in the workplace or not. When I grow up working from home sounds good but I think I'll get bored fast so I'd rather be in the workplace. Marissa Mayer should be able to work at home for a while since she is a new mom, but after a certain time period she should go back since she holds a huge position.
Banning telecommuting may not be as bad as it sounds. When making decisions or coming up with new ideas, two heads are better than one. If people are working from home, it is hard to get everyone's heads together. If Marissa Mayer is against telecommuting, then she shouldn't be able to do it either; seems a bit hypocritical to me.

I think it's important for people who aren't able to get out and get a job maybe being disabled or something to be able to work at home. But I think people who can get out shouldn't be able to. But I can see being a new mom she would need to stay home with her kid.

I think telecommuting is a great idea. However, if the CEO of the company that you work for doesn't want it, then you don't do it. Whatever she says goes. I do however agree with telecommuting, but not everyday of the week. I think the CEO should be able to work from home if she wants because she is the CEO.
Banning telecommuting is up to the company, and it's decision should be respected. Yet, if it's banned, that should apply to all employees, including the CEO. Even though she just had a baby, she shouldn't be an exception to her own rule. Telecommuting is a luxury, but I can see how it will cost a company and cause them to maybe lose money.
Yes Marissa Mayer should work from home now that she is a new mom, because she needs to be with her baby. Yea I do believe flexibility to work from home is important because then you can be with your family. I don't think banning telecommuting is a good or bad thing.
Banning telecommuting is a bad business decision. IF the workers can do there job from home and not having to leave they can save money. One day when i have a "grown-up" job telecommuting may be important depending on the job i have. Marissa Mayer should have to do the same thing as any other employee so that it can be fair.
Banning Telecommuting would a bad decision in my opinion. When I get a "grown-up" job one day I most likely would not work at home. I would get too bored sitting at home all day. Marissa Mayer should be able to work at home with her child for a little while until she shes comfortable enough to go back to work.
I think banning telecommuting is a good and bad thing. Why, because you would want to meet with people face to face, but if you can't get there then you can face time or use a web cam. She should be able to work from home she a new mother the child is going to need her more then ever right now.
Telecommuting has its ups and downs. It can become more convenient, but it can also encourage procrastination. I believe that banning a worker from working at home is a little extreme. I think she should make it so that a worker has a limit of days they can work at home. Since Marissa Mayer is a new mother she should be allowed to work at home, but that means if a worker has a baby or a health problem they should be able to work at home to. Mayer needs to make exceptions for this rule she is enforcing on her workers. As long as there are exceptions I think this is a good idea for a business.
I think banning telocommuting for Yahoo is a bad thing. There is no point of coming into work if you can do the same thing at home. Flexibility to work from home will not be important to me because i cant do a office job all day, thats too boring.I think she shouldn't be able to stay home and work because she had to come up with or approve of the new rule, so she shouldn't be an acception just because she is pregnant.
Banning telecommuting is good and bad. Bad because, company's want to see there employees come into work and see if they come into work on time. Good because you don't have to go anywhere, just wake up and work. What i want to do is never going to be an "stay at home job" Marissa Mayer should be able to work from home for a little while to be with her newborn.
I think telecommuting is great! I feel its great because it gets people up, teaches them to interact more, and could be make people more motivated. I would rather work in my work place then in my home. My home is somewhere where my family so I need to be focusing time with them instead of working all the time. Marissa Mayer should have a set time period of when she gets to work at home while she has a newborn baby. Everyone needs time for there new family but then they need to report back to work and complete their duties.
Banning telecommunication is not a good idea. If people want to go into work everyday instead of working from home then they could have the option to. With Marissa Mayer becoming a new mom she will want to stay at home and she will realize how nice it was to keep up with her work and stay at home with her newborn. When I grow up I would love to work from home so I can stay home with my children and take care of our house cleaning and take so many hours for work. I say I would like it but I'm sure if it really happened it would have its ups and downs.
It can be a good and bad thing. If somebody is using it for social reasons then they may not get their work done. But it can also be good for communicating. It can go both ways for me.
