Which person's story surprised you most? Explain what you think the statement, "if you've never failed, you've never lived" means. Has there been a time when a failure in one area of your life paved the way for success? Why do you think we must fail in order to succeed?

Wow! All of there stories surprised me. I think the one that stood out the most was the Beatles, Michael Jordan, and Abraham Lincoln. For most of what I know about the Beatles I never knew they were turned down by anyone. Michael Jordan, that just left me speechless, he's an amazing basketball player it's crazy he got cut from his high school team. Abraham Lincoln, well he was an awesome President and he did several things right. -Morgan Dee
The story that surprised me the most was Micheal Jordan. It surprised me because when he went to high school he was cut from the basketball team,so he locked himself in his room and cried. However he now is a pro basketball player.I think the statement "if you've never failed, you've never lived" means your living in a fantasy world if you have never failed at anything in life or you think you will not fail.I think we must fail to succeed because once we fail once or twice you will not fail again.
Micheal Jordan's story was surprising. I think that statement means that everybody has ups and downs and the important thing is to never give up.Yes my gpa was to low to play football so when I couldn't play it opened my eyes and I did more than just do enough to have a 2.0 and now i try my best in my classes. We must fail to succeed because everybody makes mistakes and learns from our mistakes so it makes us better people.
Walt Disney's story surprised me the most. Even after being put down and told he wasn't good enough, he was so creative and succeeded in life. I think that the statement "if you've never failed, you've never lived" means that no matter what through life you are going to face hardships and fail sometimes. I think that we must fail in order to succeed because it helps us try harder. We know what its like to fail so we push harder and strive to achieve our goals.
The one that stood out to me more was Abraham Lincoln!! I didn't know he failed that much!I think the saying "If you've never failed, you've never lived" means that every one fail in a life time if you didn't you're not really living the life. Even I had a time I failed but the next time I achieved it!!:) I think you have to fail to succeed, so you can learn from your mistakes and get better at it.
I personally think all of these stories are inspiring and remind people that nobody is perfect and to never give up. The statement “if you’ve never failed, you’ve never lived” is true because nobody is perfect and if you think you are you have a very simple life, which basically means the first time you do fail you will not know how to react and this is when people have mental breakdowns. I think everything I have done till today has paved the path to my future and I believe in living life with no regrets. Everybody must fail and no matter how much parents warn their kids to not do this and think twice they will still do what they want and they will not learn from what they were told. Life is all about experience, from the good and bad. Life is all a learning game we all have to play.
All of that surprised me, I didn't know any of that. It's true that if you never experience failure you can't really grow. Humans don't have the ability to advance without some sort of drive. When i was in elementary school I didn't get good grades. I almost failed k to 2 grade, one of my teachers even recommended me for the special ed program. With all this on my mind in 3rd grade I focused and buckled down. Now a days I'm a honor student with a 3.9 GPA. We have to fail sometimes in life otherwise we are losing the chance to advance farther. Kyle E.
Thomas Edison's story surprised me the most. No matter what you think of someone you should never talk to anyone the way that he was talked to, especially by a teacher. I think the statement "if you've never failed, you've never lived" means that no one who lives a life worth living has succeeded in everything they do. I think we must fail in order to succeed so that our failures may teach us a lesson even more valuable than doing it right the first time. Failing allows us to see that no one is perfect and it prevents us from being big headed in the long run. LaTesha
The most surprising story to me was Lucille Ball's, due to her openness and lack of a shy quality. It is clear that no one can succeed if they never try, and trying can almost always end in failure. In elementary school, the art teacher literally told me that I "sucked at art," and that I should give up a dream of artist ability. I didn't take any classes again until I got to 9th grade, and had Mrs. West. Now I'm in Studio art 5, and even though I don't plan to pursue an artistic career, it is a creative outlet for me to deal with stress and problems in my life. I've learned from experience that failure pushed me to try harder with my art, because being told, "you can't" makes you want to achieve even more.
Abraham Lincoln story surprised me the most. I think it means if you haven't failed anything then you wouldn't be able to learn from it because you already know. I honestly don't know, telling you the truth. Honestly I really don't know a time when a failure in one area of my life. I think we must fail in order to succeed because if we do then we will be able to learn from it and be a better person, I guess. Jaquitta
I think Michael Jordan, The Beatles, and Lucille Ball. I never knew Michael Jordan got cut from his high school team, yet he's a star in basketball. My favorite was Lucille Ball, who got sent home with a note saying that she was "wasting her time". I like the statement that "if you've never failed, you've never lived". It means that everyone has failed at something at least once in their life. If we succeed by failure, then it's a little sign for us to motivate ourselves. When I tried a pageant for the first time, I didn't get anything but a few trophies. Then I knew where I went wrong and what my mistakes were. Then I tried the same pageant again and I got Virginia Cover Model. After that victory, it started a chain reaction to other pageant victories. Had it not been for my first pageant, I wouldn't have had a chance to be Miss Zuni for 2011-2012! Life is great! :)
The Beatles story surprised me the most mostly because of how incredibly popular they are. That statement means everyone fails sometime in life, if you haven't, you have experienced and been through enough yet. For so long i have played for a small, local travel volleyball team during the winter. This year i tried out for the top two travel teams in Virginia. For one of them it was my second time trying out. When i tried out the first time they told me i was to short to play my position. The next year, they told me i should train as a setter. (Something I've never played before.)I wasn't really surprised with the outcome because i did horrible at tryouts, probably because they girls were nasty and the coaches knew their teams before tryouts even started. My mom and i decided i wasn't meant to play for that team. So i tried out for Coastal Virginia Volleyball Club, the team im on today. They told me i shouldn't train as a setter and im not to short at all to play my position. Im actually one of the tallest on my team. Failing to make the first team led to me playing for Coastal, which i love so much. Sometimes we fail, and people tell us we cant, but that gives us the drive and determination to succeed next time.

Walt Disney story surprised me the most. I think it means a lot of things and you can say it in many ways like "No pain No gain" or "If you don't fall how do you know what getting up is like." In my on opinion to me it means If you never had a area in your life when something happen that tried to bring you down or push you back you are not living because in the real world there is always someone out there waiting for you so they can make you stumble and stop you from success. Yes because honestly when I was in middle school my brothers always told I was going to be a bum in life and I was never going to make it I guess there words paved me a road to success because every time I think back on them words it makes me strive for a better future and it gives me motivation to prove them wrong in every way I can. I think we must fail in order to succeed because no one is perfect in this life and I don't care if you are just the greatest person on this earth some where in your life you had to fall in order to know how to keep pushing forward.
Michael Jordan's story surprised me the most I knew he was cut but I am still surprised because he is the best player of all time.I think it means learn from your mistakes. I had two C's in 9th grade and my mom said I can't play basketball so it made me work extremely hard so I could play the following year. If you fail you can learn from that situation and get better.
All of them surprised me! I believe that this statement is proved to be true. I've failed many times before but if i hadn't failed I wouldn't be where I am today. I failed at to many things to count before but they were all for me to have another purpose in life. I think people must fail first to suceed because they should learn from them. Mistakes in life are only mistakes because they are a learning experience.
I never knew that Abraham Lincoln was defeated in eight elections, yet everyone loved him after what he did for our country. I think the statement, "if you've never failed, you never lived" means that you have to get rejected and keep trying to see how dedicated you are and to try harder to accomplish the big things in life you never thought you would be able to master. I think we must fail so that we get back up and give it 100% harder and never give up to succeed what is needed or wanted. Its better to get it that way, then just getting what you want the easy way and the first time.
The Beatles. I think the statement "if you've never failed, you've never lived" means that if you don't suceed you can learn to try hard to suceed. Yes,I think we must fail in order to learn from it to try harder to suceed.
I think this statement means that you could fail at anything but you must keep trying until you've passed. You will never get good at anything unless you try. Practice makes perfect.
Michael Jordan's story suprized me because he went home lock himself in his room and cried. It meands everyone is going to fail at lease once in there life. Because once you fail you can learn to do what ever you fail better.
The Beatles story surprised me the most because they used to be really popular. The statement "if you've never failed, you've never lived" means that the way to truely succeed is to get back up and keep trying even after you've failed. Which the only way to live is to fail and then succeed even better than you expected. -Josh Cutchins
This video surprised me. Some of the ones that surprised me the most were Micheal Jordan and Thomas Edison. These people were turned down but they still achieved great things in their life. Most of us get turned down at some point in our lives. Getting turned down can help push you to reach your goals because you want to prove everyone wrong.
Micheal jordons story suprised me the most. I think it means that if you never failed you have never tryed nothing, Which means you never lived. Well you would know what not to do the next time.
The story that surprised me the most was Michael Jordan. Because he was cut from his basketball team in high school. In my opinion the statement "if you never fail, you never lived" is saying that no matter how good you are at something, even if your the best you still cant be perfect at whatever it is you do. All these stories surprised me but the Beatles story surprised me the most. Everyone fails at something, that doesn't mean we can't do it or that were bad at it, it means try again. When we fail I think we learn. I believe if you learn from your mistakes, it wasn't a mistake. I have failed in so many areas of my life that I can't even narrow it down to just one. You have to learn from the mistake and try again. Its up to you to succeed.
All of these stories surprised me! The one that surprised me most was Walt Disney. We all at some point in life fail at something and we get to go to better things. Everybody in life is not perfect. At bowling I won't make a tournament and I feel like a failure. Then a couple of weeks or months go by and another tournament that is so much better that I qualified for. We succeed every time we fail. Their is always a new path opened when we do. For example, all these people were called failures and then they changed America in so many ways. They are famous now! Nobody on the living ground is not perfect. Every body messes in some point in life.
To me, all of the stories surprised me but Micheal Jordan's story stood out the most because with his great skills, I would have never thought that him out of all people would be cut from a high school basketball team. To me the statement, if you've never failed, you've never lived" is saying that if you don't at least try to make a step forward then you are not living to your life's fulfillment. There was once when I was tried out for the softball team and I tried my best to get on the team but I was told that I wasn't good enough. That made me strive to become a better softball player and now I am achieving my goal. Now I know that the best achievement in life, is doing what others say I cant do and proving them wrong.
Walt Disney’s story surprised me the most. He is one of the most creative persons in the twentieth century, and he was told that he had no original ideas. I have failed many times before. The most Ironic instance is how some people told me that I could never do honors English because I didn’t read much and my hand righting was to bad, but now I’m in AP English, with an A, and I like the class cause it allows me to express my thoughts freely. I can make any statement, just as long as I can back it up. No one was born perfect. Every time you fail, you learn from that mistake. If you never make a mistake, than you never learn anything.
All of these stories are very inspiring! They showed everyone that even though you've had many failures, or even one, that you can bounce right back and achieve anything that you set your mind to. The story that stood out most to me most was Thomas Edison's.
Honestly all of these stories surprised me. But I do believe you cant truely succeed until you have failed. I have to strongly agree with that statement. Sometimes failure is just what you need to get you back on the track you are trying to be on. And it can also be just what you need to help you succeed.
