What do you think? Should colleges be allowed to consider race in deciding whether or not to admit a student? Why or why not? Have you ever felt overlooked because of your race? Explain.

I honestly don't know how I feel about it. Now in this time you can get a scholarship based on anything. Based on color, race, country, tall and short. I've never been looked over by a college. I feel as if you really want something bad still go for it!

I think race shouldn’t be considered but it already is in every school. We have all African schools and White people can get free tuition. That’s crazy! Race shouldn’t be look ad when looking at admission because it shouldn’t matter their color. What matters is their intellectual ability and how they will do well in the school. I have only been looked past one time and I was a fill-in counselor and I was the only white person. The first two days they were very rude and disrespectful but then they realized I was just the same as them. Racism is big in this country and it shouldn’t be.
No I think that race should have nothing to do with college acceptance and maybe when you apply you just don't specify a race so all they look at would be your grades, sports, and scores. Not really, I've never been in a situation where race was an issue for me.
I do not believe that colleges should be able to use race as an admission requirment in national colleges. It is something that was changed years ago with equal rights and it shouldnt be an issue anymore.
I think race shouldn't be considered only because it's a free country. If It shouldn't matter about what color they are. As long as they are capable of doing what is asked and can pass the classes, they should be able to get in. I haven't felt overlooked because of my race, but I know many people that have.
I don't think colleges should consider race in deciding whether or not to admit a student. I feel this way because the admittance of a student should not be weighed on what they look like but it should be weighed on academics and overall performance in school. We should live up to the standards of equality. Not admitting someone or admitting someone into college based on their race is not living up to the standards of equality. In this world there are so many other things to be worried about than how someone looks. The quicker people start to accept each other, the better this world would turn out to be.

I think race should'nt have nonething to do with getting in college. I also think they should not decide to let people in judging race. One reason is becuase color shouldn't really matter, your grades should really matter to get in a college. I have never be overlooked because of my race.
Its messed up to think about race when it comes to anything let alone education. Colleges shouldn't be allowed to consider race when admitting students because that is nothing but outside appearance. Outside appearance has nothing to do with who a person is and what they have the ability to achieve in life, so colleges shouldn't make their decisions on what race a person is. I personally have never been overlooked because of race so I don't know that hardship but I was raised to see what's inside a person instead of whats outside. Sure the stereotype is there for the races but that's all they are, you shouldn't let that cloud your judgment when meeting a person.

I think colleges should ask what race and religion you are, but not let that determine if your accepted or denied. -Like job applications. For example, when my sister went to college, initially she was roomed with a foreign exchange student. That student was from Afghanistan. Her father had been killed by the Taliban. Our father is in Afghanistan now with the US Marines. When finding this out, both my sister and the foreign exchange student, decided it would be best to find a new room mate. Things like this should be discussed and thought about when a student is accepted to remove the risk of disputes.
Colleges shouldn't consider looking at the race of a student to admit them. Every student is made different and it should stay that way. If a college only admitted one race, it would suck to go there. What a boring college! I have felt overlooked many times from my ethnicity. There has been too many cases of it, that I can barely remember it. I just ignore it, because I know people aren't going to change and that there's no use in trying to explain anything to them.
No, I don't think they should consider race in deciding whether or not to admit a student. Why, because it's not right to consider race in deciding whether or not to admit a student. Honestly, I don't think that I ever felt overlooked because of my race. I really don't know what else to say other then they shouldn't admit somebody all because of there race. That's it I guess.

I think it is a horrible thing to have a college decision made on what race you are. Race should have nothing to do with college acceptance, because it is morally incorrect. To be rejected because you're not a minority is awful, because race is irrelevant in that decision. I feel like, I have been overlooked because of my race, only because some scholarships are not available to me because I am not a minority. I don't feel like this is fair and that college, and college related things, should be based upon your schoolwork, not your background.
I think everyone deserves a chance no matter what are skin color is a believe that we all are human and should have equal rights. I don't think colleges should b allowed to consider race in deciding whether or not to admit a student because of the color of there skin but the determination of there heart. Yes I have many of times but in the world we live in a lot of people get overlooked and left out.
No I think they should let both races into all the collages. O have never been overlooked because of my race.
I think that they shouldn't be able to let race be the determining factor whether they get accepted or not. Some of the smartest people in history were African Americans. They're just as capable as any white person. It is just wrong to do it.
Its pretty messed up. I dont think race should have anything to do with it.

I think the colleges might be able to consider race and not.I'm undecided about it. But the only reason some colleges do take race into consideration is about keeping the equality population of races equal. No when i feel overlooked i think it's just me not my race.
Colleges shouldn't be allowed to do that. If your white anymore you can't get any help getting into colleges. I feel discriminated against. Oh well, life goes on.

I don't think that anyone should ever have a decision made for them because of their race. That is going against our freedom that we are suppose to have and if these students are so smart they could help the school in their grades, I thought that's what schools were for, not what you look like. I have never really felt overlooked because of my religion and I really hope never to face that.
I don't think race has anything to do with it. That's racist.

No, the colleges shouldn't be allow to decide whether you're black or white. They shouldn't because the color doesn't determine whether you are smart or not. Yes, I have felt overlooked because of my race. I went to this almost all white school and this teacher told me that I would never make it in life. I think she said that because I was black. It wasn't because I was a bad student because I was quiet and shy.
Race should not be a factor when applying for college. I believe that just because your black doesn't mean you should have advantages over others. In today's society this is becoming a large problem and it needs to stop!ZACH CAHALAN
I don't think that race should have anything to do whether a person is liable to get into a college or not. It should be based on their grades, attendance and a clean record. I have never been overlooked by my race and I hope it won't ever happen. Even if it did happen to me, I wouldn't want to do that to some one else.
I don't think that race should determine whether or not someone is admitted into college. I don't think that race should be a factor in anything in our society or anywhere else in the world. Race should not matter. I don't think I have ever really been overlooked because of my race but I've seen it happen. We're human and it's just the way our minds work.
No I believe that people should be judged equally by their education requirements. Everyone is the same is how I see it except for their grades and how they carry themselves. No I have never felt overlooked by my race. I have been overlooked by my gender before because i'm a female. I believe that gender is judged more than race is in some cases.
I think the colleges should not be allowed to admit a student just for the race. The colleges should admit students that have good grades. The person might be a strait A student. Yes I have felt overlooked of my race. Of where the state I been in and moved to.
I think colleges should not consider your acceptance because of your race. Just because someone is either white or black does not make them smarter than the other. They should only consider what your GPA is and your grades. Everybody should be treated equally. We all have the same rights, we all shop at the same stores, we all eat at the same restaurants, so why can't we all go to college together? I have never felt overlooked because of my race.
I hope she wins. Race should not be considered in deciding whether or not to admit a student. Let the person’s passion be the deciding factor in deciding whether or not to admit a student. I have never felt overlooked because of my race. Cause I don’t let people overlook me because of my race, I let my thoughts be known.
I think race shouldn't be a factor in the admissions process. You should get in to a college on academics or sports. Being a different race and getting a scholarship is not smart because the student might not even be smart just a different race. No, I don't feel overlooked because I'm white and white isn't usually the minority
This is just ridiculous. I don't believe that race should be a determining factor when it involves getting into colleges. I understand wanting to know the religion and race of the person that wants to be admitted. But using race as a determining factor? That is unfair and definitely unjust. A person of a different race could be just as smart as the race it's being determined against. And I'm glad I've never felt overlooked because of my race.
I don't think that colleges should be allowed to consider race in deciding whether or not to admit a student. Race has nothing to do with grades or rights or anything. Just because you're a certain race doesn't mean you should be discriminated against. I've never really felt overlooked because of my race. But it really bugs me when other people are racist.
Colleges shouldn't be allowed to deny or grant a student based on their race, nor religion, nor sex. Your race doesn't determine anything about you but the color or your skin. Nobody is in control or what color they are, you just are the way you are. Why hate someone over something they have no control over? What makes one race better than the other? Nothing. I haven't ever really been overlooked because of my race. I get along with all races. I have White, Black, Asian, and Indian people in my family, and I love and treat them all the same.
