Tough Times

I thought this video was appropriate because so many families are facing tough times now that International Paper has announced its closing...

Describe your reaction to this video. How do you think you would respond to tragedy in comparison with Horatio Spafford? Horatio Spafford leaned on his faith when times were tough. What do you lean on? What can we learn from this video?

That was very heart touching. He seemed to have taken it pretty well, me on the other hand would have had a break down. Sometimes I look to God, and other times my parents help to pull me through. That even though times are rough and things happen you still have to move on. Stuff that happens in life can not keep you from living life.

I think that the video is sad. I do not know how I would have reacted. I could not imagine losing four children. But I agree, at least he did not lose his wife. I think that this video shows that even when tragedy strikes, if you stay strong and have faith everything will be ok.

This video was so sad. I don't think that I would be deal with tragedy as well as Horatio Spafford did. This man had a very difficult life filled with grief and I don't think I would be able to handle all the things that happened to him. When times are tough I lean on my friends and family to help get me through it. From this video, I learned that I take a lot of the little things for granted and I should cherish every moment of life.

This video is very sad. I really don't know how I would have reacted to a tragedy like in the video. I was brought up in church and was thought to lean on God and to have faith. This video teaches us different things. I believe that the most important lesson that we should learn from this video is to have faith and everything is going to be alright. ~Sherrell A.

This video is really sad. I have no idea what I would do in Horatio's position. He would have handeled it a lot better than I would have. When times are tough, I lean on my family. However, his family was not there for him. From this video, we can learn to not take everything for granted. Life is too short and you never know what could happen.

My reaction to this video was sad, I personally don't know the feeling of losing someone close to me but I have lost people who mean alot to me. Me personally I wouldn't be able to live losing all my children because that would be my life and to have everything tooken away would send me on the deep end. Well I things get tough with me and my mom I lean on hope because with out hope I don't know what I would do. Well for one not to take things for granted and to regret anything you do in life because it happens for a reason.

I would have been devistated if my children were killed. I would have been broken hearted for years. I would lean on the only thing I would have left. Perry. He has been there for me through so much so far even though we haven't been together long. Though times get hard they always get better because you can only be pulled down but so far. Once you hit the bottom there's only one way and that is up.

My reaction would have to be sad. It was sad because he lost everything but his wife. I would probably be upset for a really long time, but be glad because I would still have my husband. I lean on God and my boyfriend because when times were tough for me, they were with me and helped bring me up instead of down. I think we can learn to trust God and even when times are bad, lean on your faith.

This video was upsetting. If I was in the situation that Horatio was in I think I would have gave up. It would be hard to loose all of my possessions and loose my children and still be a happy man. I lean on my parents and God when I am feeling sad or frustrated. We can all learn that there will be many obstacles in life, but we must learn how to overcome these hard times.

If something would happen to me like it happen to Horatio Spafford, I think that I would fall all to pieces. I could not imagine if I had lost all five of my children. But I would feel a little bit better knowing that I still have my spouse in my life. It makes you think that you should be a glad that you have your family in your life because one day they will be gone. When times are tough I lean on my best friends,my mother, grandmother, and my grandfather. We can learn to really appreciate the ones we love.

What happened in this video was really sad. I would not have been able to respond to the tragedy like Horatio Spafford did. I wouldn't have been able to write a song and all when all of that had just happened. I would have been in shock. You can learn from this video that you never know when you're going to lose people or things so you shouldn't take them for granted.

I thought the tragedy that befell Horatio Spafford was very bad. People today that lose as much as Horatio did might lose hope. If all of the tragedies that befell Horatio befalled me, I would keep my faith, but I would still be heartbroken. We are all human in one way or another. It is within human nature to be sad, angry, confused, or happy. But then an unfortunate part of life is death. When tragedy befalls me, I lean on my faith, but I try to make a physical impression, too. Faith is good but it's nothing like brute force and streangth. We can learn to be faithful and never give up, no matter what life throwes at us. That is my way. I will never give up no matter what.

I would want to take the easy way out and just give up, but being the person I am I wouldn’t let my self and if I had others that needed me then I would do all that I could possibly do for them to make then happy no matter what I had to go through. I lean on the people around me or myself most of the time. I grew up having to take care of the ones I love the most. This video I think shows that even when you don't give up, bad things can continue to happen over and over again and it's up to you to decide how you’re going to live your life from there.

It is terrible sad that people actually go through these type of tragedies. Though it is heartwarming that this man can overcome it and praise the Lord at the end of the day. How?, I don't know. I could never have the attitude that Horatio had if something like this had happened to me. When times are tough I usually lean on my best friend, Christian. Sometimes it's just nice to have someone there to listen. This video taught me that there is hope and there will be peace at the end.

How deal with the hardest times of life? In order to go through all these things and survive your mind has to be strong. I would’ve tried my best to live with what I had and cherish what I have. I also lean on my faith and on God. From this video I learned to keep striving and to never give up on your dream no matter what the circumstance is.

My reaction to this video was kind of iffy. I couldn't tell you what my response would be because I never been threw that type of tragedy. When times are tough I lean on nothing really I just suck it up and carry on. Well there are many things we can learn from this video like how too deal with tragedy and move on for one. But the main thing you could learn from this is everything has its time. James St. Peter

My reaction to this video is this is so sad. If a tradgedy like this happened around here or to my family, I might as well die cause I ouldn't be no good to anyone. I lean on my mom and she tells me to lean on my faith. We can learn to be thankful, and to make the best of things from this video.

This video is so sad. I wouldn't be able to write a hymn that was titled "It is Well With My Soul" if I were him. I have a hard time forgetting the bad stuff. I lean on people around me when I'm upset, but mostly myself. I have to make myself stronger and deal with things alone a lot of the time because if I don't, I won't grow from it. I also lean on God all the time to help me through it.

This video was really sad and depressing. Although he lost everything he never gave up or lost faith in himself. Horatio Spafford was going through many hard times but he didn't let it get to him and pushed through everything and was strong. If I was in his situation I honestly would have had an emotional breakdown and wouldn't have been as strong as him through all that. He handled all the tragedies he went through very well.

I don't necessarily think that its stupid, but I didn't like it. I would just kill myself because I wouldn't have anything I worked so hard to obtain. I don't know what I "lean" on. From this video we can learn that you should never give up and just keep on pushing. Some of us just have a harder time doing it than others.

I think this video is so powerful. How someone who as lost it all, writes this song when his times are hard. "It is well with my soul", is a good song when you need hope. Especially people these days losing jobs and so much more... I don't know what I would do compared to this man. I know I would lean on Jesus, and let him control the situation. Prayer and faith together are a powerful combination... I lean on faith, or if I need someone to talk to I talk to them... This video teaches us so much. I guess the main reason or thought, is to have Faith no matter what!

I really could understand what he went through.I think I will take it very hard.It will have been a serious break down for me. We time are tough for me I have my mom shoulder to lean on.I share all me tough times in tears to her.Think of others that go to bad times before think of yourself. If your life is good but it to the side in help others that really need it.

To me this video was very heartfelt and sad if you think about it. The song means so much more than what you would think if you just heard it one day. The tragedy to me is horrible, like this poor guy lost everything he ever really had other than his wife which to me is probably the reason he got through it all. When things get hard for me, I can always count on my mom to be there, she's like the toughest person I know and has made it through so much. She's definitely what I would consider my hero. I think you can learn through this video is to never take anything for granted and to live life one day at a time.

I kind of felt bad because he lost everything. I would have been a wreck if any of that stuff happened to me. I don't handle tragedy very well. When bad stuff happens I rely on family and friends to help me through. From this video we can learn a lot. If Horatio Spafford can lean on his faith and let everything pass and everything be okay, then maybe we should rely a little more on our faith too.

I think this video is very sad, and unfortunate. Even though this happened a long time ago, I still feel bad for this couple who lost everything including their children. I don’t know how I would have responded, I don’t think I would have made it very far in life after those incidents, because I would have given up on life and myself. The one person who I lean on the most when things get rough for me is my boyfriend. No matter what I go through he’s always there for me and if it’s just listening to me cry and telling me “it’s okay”. The one thing I learned from this video is to never give up, and keep my faith in God because he helps.

I am amazed by the story behind this. Like it is crazy how he lost everything, but managed to write that hymn. If that stuff would have happened to me, I would probably be depressed for a LONG time! Horatio is a strong person because I probably reacted that way. I am kind of struggling with having to lean on faith but I am trying. Most the time I lean on my mom or God.

This video was very sad. I would be devastated if something like this would happen to me. I would probably lean on my mother if I was put in Horatio Spafford’s position. We can learn from this video to be thankful for what you have. Once it is gone then you might not ever have it again.

This is a really sad video. It really made me think about my neighbor, her husband is losing his job at IP. I would definitely not do what he did. I probably would have done other stuff. When times are tough, I depend on others to be there for me. Caleb definitely helps me out a lot. We can learn that there are things to help us along the way, we just have to look past all of the bad things to see the good.

My reaction to this video is that it was really sad to watch and just to know that that all happened to one person in a period of only a few years. If something like that happens to my family or anyone in my family I would be devastated just at the thought of it. Well I pretty do the same thing that Mr. Spafford did I would lean on my faith because that and support from the people around me is what pulls me through any situation. We can learn from this video to never take anything or anybody for granted because you will never know when your last day maybe or when your life could change tragically.-Cadeja

All I could think was "poor guy," he lost everything but somehow managed to maintain through it all. The only thing I can say about him is that he has much faith and strength. I do not think that I would be able to do what he did; I would probably be in a bed just eating my life away...lol!
Although when times start to get tough for me I lean on my loved ones, because I know they are there for me. More importantly, I lean on my faith in God, because it gives me strength. The message I got out of this video is to never take anything for granite.

The video brought tears to my eyes. If I was in his shoes I think I would of just kept my head high and just looked for the positive things in my life. I don't really lean on anyone I just try to keep a positive mind frame about life no matter how bad things may be. I think there is alot to be learned from this video, and the first thing to be learned is that you should always be close to family because they can be gone in a flash.
